New Injen CAI problem

Post by CrazyCorpsman »

Hey everyone. I know that there has been many posts about CEL's coming on with a new CAI install (and I think that I've read all of them), but can't find the right information or help that I need.Last week I installed my Injen CAI on my '04 Base. (A big thanks for all of the posts on the install. You really don't have to take off the bumper! In any case, upon the initial start up, my Vibe idled horribly. It almost felt like I had a cammed out V-8 in the thing. I let it idle for 20 minutes without it stalling, but the idle never corrected itself. It does, however, idle fine when I turn on the A/C unitI then drove around for about 15 miles and then my CEL came on and because i was in my way to Advanced Auto Parts, I had them test the 'puter to see what it came up with. Besides it saying the it was running lean and mis firing on all cylinders, it also said that the O2 sensor was bad.I didn't wan't to fork out $150 bucks that day for a new sensor, so I got a new set of NGK plugs and some fuel system cleaner and drove the car or about a week, hoping that maybe it would clear up.Well, it didn't, so I proceeded to get a new senor and installed it; reset the ECM, let it idle for 20 minutes and nothing. It is still idling like a V-8 when I don't have the A/C on and of course, I'm getting horrible gas mileage.Has any one had a similar problem or any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help,Brian

Check that you connected all the hoses where they are supposed to be. Make sure the MAF sensor is facing the right way. The most common problem is a tiny bit of oil from the filter gets on the MAF sensor. Clean it carefully with some spray carburator cleaner or brake cleaner spray. It is easily damaged if you try and clean it with a q-tip or something.(Rats! Too slow again.)

Hmm I see a TRD CAI, aren't those supposed to be used with 03s only since the 04+ models have the air pump?

only had the pump on the GT models. we're talking about the base models, so 03-04 base didn't change.

on the base model? i don't recall it being any different between those years. that's why Mav has an 03/04 Injen Intake on his base vibe. the 03 GT CAI was different from the 04 because of the smog pump. and from my understanding now, the 05+ all models have something in the wheel well?? or it's routed differently, not sure exactly.

the 03/04 base should be the same, the 05+ had DBW so the intake is some how different and only cosmo makes a cai atm for those. I have a 04 base vibe with the TRD cai and have not once had a CEL.
