(removed), I want one!!!My first car was a 1984 VW Rabbit. I loved that car with every ounce of my being. My stupid BF (at the time) crashed it twice, then I finally cooked the motor in it, so it had to go to the salvage yard.I have always said that if I had the chance, I'd buy one again, just to have it. But, now that they're bringing them back, I am TOTALLY tempted.I was planning on trading the Vibe in next summer. Now I've got something to think about!Their Canadian website has limited information & photos, and NO information about fuel economy. Anyone have any information on the new VW Rabbit? I'd be looking at a 5-door. I'd buy one in a second if it came in a diesel (even thought my original Bunny drank gas).

VW's US site has some info, but you probably have already found that stuff. I've attached the specs that are available there just in case you missed 'em. lol! That is a pretty snazzy lil' ride! The powertrain looks good, inline 5 with 150 HP/170 lb-ft, it's a torquey sucker alright, but mileage tops out at 30 highway. Excellent safety stuff, living is always a plus. And it really seems to have a good amount of content for the price. The 4-door model with the 6-speed auto I priced out was US $18,600-ish, not bad really, considering what all is on the car for that price. This car meets my strict (tightwad) standards for "a crapload of stuff for little money." lol! Here's a review I just found: http://www.canadiandriver.com/...t.htmNo diesel until 2009 it looks like though.

Heard they were bringin back the Scirocco also. I had an '84 and loved it! Too bad this one sounds like it's out of my price range. Pics of new VW models found here...http://www.germancarblog.com/2....html

AKA rebadging the Golf. US Price is 15,000 for 2 door, 17,000 4 dr. Add 1,075 for AT and 600+ for destination. Given VW reliability, don't think I am interested.

My old Rabbit was a bit of a piece of crap, but it also wasn't well taken care of (and was 10 years old when I bought it). All that said, my HB's 1997 VW Jetta (while also approaching that 10 year mark) is starting to fall apart, but is more or less reliable. I know that VW is famous for electrical issues, but considering that I'd be putting so few miles on the car, the warranty would last me quite a long time!I'm glad I can't consider trading in for another year ... gives me some time to cool off, because if I weren't having a baby next week, I'd SO be at the VW dealership placing my order.

Mega-early congrats on forthcoming the new human arrival! BTW: I still have my '84 VW Rabbit Convertible.

New Rabbit = Old Golf. While they will be built in Wolfsburg, not Mexico, the layout and design is still that of the MK 5 Golf that is new to the U.S. but not for Europe. We were still getting the old MK 4 until last year and the designation of the American "Golf" as a "Rabbit" had nothing to do with the new platfom. It's just a marketing gimmick that apparently is doing it's job. Amazing what $5 worth of badges can do!IMHO, when similarly equipped to other small cars, it's still way overpriced...especially when it comes to reliability (even the one's made in Germany). You can spend $21K on a fully loaded, non-GTI Rabbit or for the same money you can buy a three-year old Audi TT that has been pampered, serviced and driven only on sunny days. I'll take the latter, thank you! However, it must be noted that the reiteration of the Rabbit means you can once again buy those "humping rabbits" badges for your ride.

As was said before, first thing I said to the vw rep was..."isn't this just a golf or GTI?" of course they took offense to that, but it does look the same. The rabbit name, however, is priceless, just as the bug is. I think the whole idea of a car called the rabbit is hot.And has anyone seen the commercial for the rabbit? it's great...In case you haven't, here:http://video.google.com/videop...abbit
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
I saw the commercial the other day. It's a cute car, but you're right, I thought it was a commercial for the GTI until the end when they showed the rabbit symbol.
