Does the 2006 Base Vibe have 12 volt outlets?

Post by dalemccl »

The 2006 Vibe brochure and Pontiac's web site both mention that the Vibe base has a 115 volt outlet, but never mentions 12 volt outlets.Does it have 12 volt outlets and in what location(s)? Thanks.

there should be a 12-volt DC outlet about 3 inches to the left of the 115-volt AC outletthere is also a blank where earlier models had a second 12-volt dc outlet located in the inside bottom center console.I have a air purifier in mine.

Yes, and it should be noted that there is still wiring for the former 12 V outlet in the center console. The whole console lifts out easily after removing 4 screws that are under the felt pads in the front and back compartments of the console. I picked up a Radio Shack 12V outlet, press fit it into the hole, and wired it up in a few minutes. Very handy to have the second outlet in the console compartment for things like cellphone and other battery chargers without having extra wires hanging from the dash.

Prathman, I was just wondering how I was going to add another outlet. Does the second outlet you installed have a separate fuse and/or did you have to add one??? Is it on all the time or only when the ignition is on???I have the smokers kit in mine ( I don't smoke) and the owners manual says not to use it (cigarette lighter outlet) for auxiliary power but use the auxiliary power outlet instead. Doesn't make sense because there is no auxiliary power outlet if one has the cigarette lighter outlet. I know the Matrix advertises TWO 12 volt auxiliary outlets where as the Vibe brochure only mentions outlets (plural) but don't really say how many.

After studying the second 12 volt outlet location it is obvious why Vibe discontinued it. Why would anyone want an outlet INSIDE the console???? I think it will be more practical to get for me to get an aftermarket outlet and wire it (with fuse) directly to the battery.

Keeps it out of sight when parked. Also, don't have the cord hanging around my shifter.Of course, the whole point of mods are to get what YOU want

I've also found the in-console location to be very useful for the second 12V outlet. In addition to charging cellphones, we've used it to run a battery charger for NiMH AA cells that I use in my GPS, camera, and flashlights, and to charge my daughters MP3 player. Much nicer not having cords running down from the dash and also keeps things out of sight. If I were going to add a third 12V outlet I'd probably put it in the rear luggage area. Not sure why GM decided to drop the second outlet, especially since they left in the wiring and hole for it. Eliminating the plug itself could only save a couple bucks. My guess is that some bean counter noticed all the warranty claims for replacement batteries and ascribed them to customers using too many gadgets plugged into all the outlets. Of course the real reason is far more likely to be the low charge capacity of the original batteries (at least they fixed that as well).
