Yep, tomorrow bright and early I am heading off towards Dallas. Probably going to stop somewhere in TX along the way if I can't maintain consciousness. Pray that my my Vibe makes it, as I am a little paranoid being as how 1 engine took a **** and I installed the new 1!!!! Never got the tranny cooler in, oh well. Maybe I will do it while I'm in TX. Wish me luck at the conference as well and hopefully I will land a nice job so I can get moved out there!

Well guys, I got here! The trip didn't go without any excitement though! I was worried more than anything about my engine and tires, and the worst part of the whole drive from San Diego to Dallas is like the first 1-2hrs going through the mountains to get out of SD. I was so scared something was going to go wrong with my engine or that I would get a flat after the 1 I had before, I wasn't even thinking of any other possibilities. I got about 1hr or so out of SD in the moutains and I was about to pass a Casino/gas station/ rest stop, and I was going to keep going, but something told me at the last minute to stop and check everything. I stopped next to the pump to check my tires, and as I was there I heard a loud extended whoooosh of air! I thought the valve that was leaking must have gone and my front right was going to be on the ground, but as I looked at the car, it didn't appear to lean. I looked inside and ALL 4 BAGS WERE ON E!!!! I had no idea what had happened, but as soon as I turned the car on, the compressors kicked in, but they were blowing straight through! I had no idea what to do, so I decided my only option was to try to drive it slowly back to SD and take it to a hydraulic shop I had heard of and see if they could fix it. Needless to say, it was the worst ride ever! I made it back, found the hydro shop, and lucky for me after I quick rundown of my situation, they got me in right away and started fixing everything. Basically what had happened was that the header had heated the bag hose that ran from one side of the car to the other through the engine bay. It got so hot that the pressure blew a hole in the hose and released all the pressure in the system. By the time I got there it had also incurred other damages which I kind of expected from the rough ride. Some wires had come loose, etc... About 1 1/2hr later they got everything fixed, and 4hrs later than expected I got back on the road. I stopped in El Paso at about 11pm PST, slept a few hrs, and got back on the road at about 5am. I got here to Allen at about 5pm central Texas time with no further problems. I was exceptionally pleased that the engine didn't give me ANY problems at all! Guess I did something right!

Went to the conference yesterday and today. Had 3 interviews, 2 of which I was interested in, so hopefully tomorrow I will find out what they thought of me!

Thanks guys. Couple of things I forgot to mention: 1) Saw a Moonstone 03/04 Vibe on Fri afternoon right before I hit the Arizona border in CA (right after the checkpoint for you). It had dark tinted windows and and a fairly large white sticker of some sort on the rear quarter window on the drivers side. Saw a few other Vibes, some of all years and colors. There are even some here in Allen I have seen since I got here! Guess I need to get some more GVC stickers for my car! 2) I had a question, can't think of what it was. If I don't think of it right now someone remind me on a day or 2 and I will try to remember what it was. OH, I REMEMBER NOW! Something I found out while driving over here through the mountains, to avoid going in to boost too much at time when I was headed up a steeper incline, I would turn my O/D OFF. When I did that the boost level would drop back closer to ), the rpms would increse, and it would give me a ittle more power to get up the hill, but at the same time it kind of sounds like the engine is pushing a little too hard. After I was in this mode for 15s or more, I would see my battery light in the dash start to flicker! (removed) is that?!?! Anybody got any info ir had any experiences with that? I think it might be my battery, even though pretty new, it was in my car when the engine died and all my attempts to get it started again, using the airbags to raise that car up to put on tow trucks, and was recharged numerous times after being dead. When it was in 1 of the dealers they said it was no good and not holdiong a charge, but I thought they were full of $h!t, as it always seemed to work when I needed it and after the transplant still works to this day, but I do notice that the airbags seem to need more power than the battery has and I have to rev the engine to get them to work sometimes. Not sure how that applies to the O/D thing or why it would read a failing battery when it is off. 3) I managed to average about 25-27mpg with a S/C on the way over here!!!! I usually averaged about 18mpg or so in my normal driving around SD!OH, today in a couple of hrs I will call and find out what the companies I interviewed with thought of me!

I do seem to keep the pedal down a little longer, a little harder, and a little more often than I probably should though! Quote, originally posted by xssiv1 »Congrats on the second interview. Hope all goes well.. That gas mileage really stinks... I thought the S/C would help not hinder! Thanks everyone! We'll see what happens after this. As far as the S/C goes, it sends more fuel and more air to the engine, how would you expect to get better mileage???

Well, thus far I still haven't had the 2nd interview. Waited for like a wk to hear back from them, then got told by another person there that the reason they didn't call me back was b/c I told them I planned to live in Allen and they wanted me to live in Denton which is a whopping 30min away, but b/c I would be getting paid from the time I get in thr car to the time I get home, I don't know if they will go for it. Still waiting to hear back from them. Been away from SD for 3wks now, the wife and kid just came for a visit to see my family, and now she told me she wants me back in SD after a week! She is having a hard time finishing her stuff for her Masters which is done next month and with my son who can be a real PITA, plus she just wants me to be there with her, so she told me to wait 1 wk and try to get something figured out and to get back to SD! I really don't want to go back and would even moreso hate for this to be another wasted trip. So far I have put over 3k mi on the Vibe. Trip back to SD will be another 1.5k. I was miserable the whole time they were here. I am feeling more and more like I should find some way to end this, but most of my stuff is still there and I don't want my son to have to live like I did going back and forth between parents, but I don't know if it would be any better to live with even 1 miserable and unhappy parent. I don't know, just wanted to let everyone know what was going on. Still got to hear back from the 1st company and have a few others I am going to try to see about over the next week. THIS SUX!

I'm not familiar with what kind of job pays you from doorstep to doorstep like that (you said they pay from the time you get in the car till you get home). Is it some field-based work? I think you could get a little creative with the arrangements. Offer to meet them halfway; you clock in 15 minutes after leaving home and clock out 15 minutes after leaving your last assignment.

I obviously don't know your situation, but consider, you are both under a lot of stress. You are looking for a job, she is down to the wire trying to finish a degree, you are 1200 miles apart, raising a child, etc. This would be a difficult time for anyone, and a brief visit during all of this is not necessarily indicative of the true situation. IOW, this is not a good time to make such a major decision. You don't deserve to be miserable, but go slow and make sure you really understand what is making you miserable first. Much personal unhappiness can be chased away by simply reflecting on those things which are good in your life for a few minutes before going to sleep. Good luck.

Never had a job like that.I hope they get over their concerns.I think what Jim said deserves some thought. All our daily stresses are magnified several times now that we have a kid. Of course, we're not in your position just trying to offer suggestions.
