Possibly trading Vibe for Magnum R/T

Post by frostyGT »

I test drove the Magnum R/T today and loved it. 90% sure that I am going to go sign some papers Monday. The car drives nice, and I personally really like the styling. They seem to be cutting me a pretty decent deal. $27k for the new 2006 R/T and $12k for my 2003 Vibe. Not too bad, considering that the sticker on my Vibe was 22.5k and the R/T is 33k. So...my 4 year old Vibe trades in at 10.5k off original msrp, and I pick up a new R/T at 6k off msrp. Here are some dealer pics. I'll post more if I decide to get it.Edit: Pics Updated!!!

if you do, i'd definitely go back to stock as much as possible. they won't be giving you anything for all your a/m parts. sell them and recoop some of your costs or put towards the down payment. that's what i did last year when i got rid of mine. and 12K for the vibe gt? not bad. i got $11K for mine (with front end damage a year ago, expiring tags, busted windshield). walked out the door with my LGT for $25.6K from $32K sticker (not including the dealer mark up). this is the time to buy, so good luck! the magnum's aren't too bad, but still remind me of a hearse. lol. just can't get over that part i suppose.

Thanks...As far as removing mods, I'm not sure what I can remove. I had to cut my stock exhaust off (threw it away), I've had my intake so long I couldn't remember how to put the stock airbox back in even if I still had it, my stock wheels are sold and my original door speakers are gone. Although the Infinity's I have were only $150 for the 4 and are several years old. They're giving me an extra 1k for my dvd player, sub and sirius box. I paid less than that for the set anyway.I got my Tein springs for $80 shipped, and there is no force on this planet that could get me to take those off. I don't have my stock springs anymore anyway.I think I put about 2.5k in mods over the years, but trade-in value for my car is 10.2, so I'm getting a fair price based on my car having a fairly desirable look.

Nice Magnum. I drove an R/T a few months ago was really impressed. But now that gas prices have climbed, I'm thinking I'll hang on to the Vibe a while.

Looks good and conrats! $12,000 trade in is great, I owe $7,000 more on mine.My PT is coming off lease in Sept and I will have to get a new Chrysler product. A 300C or Charger would be nice but I think I am getting a Caliber or Compass...

Yeah...The black tinted windows on black look really nice.I just got off the phone with them, and they agreed to give me the same trade-in without my stereo equipment. Whew!!!! Gotta go re-install my stock cd player. Going in to sign papers tonight. Kinda sad, but my clutch is just beginning to slip, my tires are at 50% and my exhaust started making a strange metallic sound. Not sure what the problem is with the exhaust, but it's not my problem anymore! Oh...and this Magnum is not actually brand new. It has 515 miles on it. It is 3 weeks old. Some dumb couple bought it and then found out it wouldn't fit in their garage. Dodge dealer wouldn't take it back, so they traded it for a Passat Wagon after owning it less than a week. Hence, buying it used from a Buick/VW dealer. Their loss, my gain!

well, that's how i got such a sweet deal on my LGT. it had 199 miles on it. was supposed to be a rental, but then the dealer got rid of the rental side of the business, so it was never actually rented out. lol

I rented a Manum R/T Hawaii (the big Isle) last January. Loved it. My wife periodically tries to talk me into trading in my Vibe, but I love my Vibe more. Enjoy!

Quote, originally posted by Vibe_dude »Your car but all i can say is Y?at todays cost of gas Y?and it look like a hearse.........my opinionAs far as gas goes, it's really not that big a deal. It's rated 20/25, and my GT was 25/30. When in "cruise" mode, the Hemi is rated at 30 mpg. Will I get that? Probably not. I expect to average about 20, because I tend to accelerate heavy. However, 80% of my driving is on the highway and I only go about 600 miles a month. I had my Vibe nearly 4 years and it had just 31k miles, with 4k miles from 2 trips to CA.At 20 mpg, that's 30 gallons which is about $90. I'll be using 89 octane. My vibe gt got 27 mpg, so that is 22 gallons(premium). 8 gallons more which is about a $25/month difference. Ouch! But, my payment is $25 lower each month so it's a wash.My wife's Pacifica only has the 3.5l engine, and she gets about 19 mpg. On trips to the coast, the Magnum's Hemi should do better than her 6 cyl. Why? Because there is something special about driving a car with a 5.7 L engine. Why get a Vibe GT when the base gets better mileage? Why not get one of the many cars now that get 40+ mpg? As far as looking like a hearse, no biggie. My wife thinks the same thing. But it sure does look mean, and that's a nice change after driving a visually mild car for so long.I'm gonna take some pics tonight. This car has alot of nice features that are missing from the Vibe. A big one is a retracting cargo cover. Another neat feature is that the battery is in the back next to the spare. That will definitely make amp installs alot easier...

well, it's your car and that's what matters. and the magnum RT vs a vibe GT are 2 totally different classes. you can't compare them. 2 kinds of vehicles. and if gas was your only concern, then get a bicycle! lol.

i like the magnum, but here in cali every baller and their grandma has one... i hate cali... one car every one has it. i drove the base 2.7 chrysler 300 and i liked it but rather felt like a truck over bumps. gas milage is a big no no in this case... but if you like it go for it...

well, as we we say on the other performance boards:you gotta pay $$ to play! so if you want power and oomph, it's gonna use up more gas, therefor costs more $$. and atleast he gets to use cheap gas vs premium.i pay for premium + torco race fuel for EVERY fill up. normally get about 20 mpg, but hey! like i said, gotta pay to play.
