RWD?

Post by TheShadow »

Ok, I am wondering how hard you guys think it will be to change the vibe to rwd? If any of you awd guys have some pics of your rear set up, (ie. differential, suspension, drive shaft, etc..) I would greatly appreciate it. I am thinking of an engine swap, but would have to go rwd for it to work. Thanks

I would say the cost would not be worth it. the easiest would prolly be a AWD vibe and mod it to do rwd. but otherwise you would have to redo the whole drive train with a RWD toyoa/lexus.

I've often wondered about just putting the rear suspension from an awd onto my GT. then it would have independant rear suspension. I would think it would have to handle better.

I have access to a complete JDM 1jz-gte drivetrain. I can pick it up for about a grand, but I was thinking of whether I could get it to fit.

WOW you are talking serious stuff here... You will need a trans, drive shaft and rear end all that will fit under the Vibes chassis. I am also guessing the floor of the Vibe would need to be cut and raised in order for the drive shaft to pass under. Plus the Vibe is a uni body and I dunno if it could take all RWD power. How knows, maybe it would be similar to a RWD Camaro of the 1980's-1990's which were uni body as well. The best would be finding a RWD car around the same wheel base and go from there I guess.

I have friend that has a Ford ZX3 and he went to a 351W and rwd. The thing is a beast. He is going to help me with any fabrication.

Does anyone know the rear wheel base of the Vibe?
