HID Kit Issue - Help Needed - No high beams?

Post by HostMerit.com »

Hi Guys:Im personally a Ford Explorer owner (www.05explorer.com)Recently I got a Flowlighting HID Kit and have loved it for the last few weeks on my Explorer. I got a Flowlighting HID 9003/H4 Kit for my Dads 04 Vibe.Upon Installation I had some issues but since there are prongs, I installed the ground at the 12 'o clock position and low beam power (I guess) at the 3pm position. Now the headlights are installed and low's work perfectly. The issue is when I switch to hi-beams, the lights go off and there's no light at all. Do I need a polarity switch or something (went through around 50 or so posts here)Not sure what to do at this point, the bulbs did say H4 H/L so I believe they have High and Low capability. My dad is too crazy with warranties so I wont be cutting any wires under the dash, and will be taking my chances with the DRL, and just ask him to keep his lights on 24/7 from the dash controls.Again just wondering what I need to accomplish to get these lights working when the highs are switched on. I noticed when plugging a normal bulb's power into the high with a ground attached, it looked very dim, and looked to only produce 5 watts, the difference between the two...This is a fathers day present so would love some quick replies, and 1 year of free web hosting from the company I own (www.hostmerit.com) to whoever can help me fix this. Thanks again!

In the top front left of the dash, there is a small black round thing, the cover for the ambient light sensor. If this detects enough light, it switches the headlights into halfbright DRL mode, with no tail lights. If you don't want to disable the DRLs, but want to make sure that they never go into half rbight mode, you should be able to pop the sensor up out of the dash, take off the plastic cover on the top, and put something opaque between the guts of the sensor and the platic cover. This would trick the DRL logic into thinking it's always dark, so it would never go into daylight mode, and you wouldn't have to trust the driver to always manually turn the headlights on.Some poeple just pry up the sensor from the top, but if you take that dash trim piece that has the vent and the dimmer switch and mirror controls, you can just pull that off and then reach in and push the sensor up from below.I have no idea how to wire the HID lights up, but looking at a bulb it is definitely a two filament (high/low) bulb. I don't know which prong carries which signal. If I could find my meter I can try to measure it, unless someone who already knows posts the answer first.

Thanks for your reply, the HIDs acutally give a strobe effect in DRL mode so Ill just keep them on.The ballasts just give a power and ground plug, Im wondering why they lose power / turn off when the brights are switched on but are fine in low beam mode. I tried hooking it up to the high beam power and it gave off nothing, then plugged a normal bulb into the highbeams, and it only gave off ~ 5watts and was very dim. At this point I couldnt care less about DRL, but really just want usable brights with HIDs.Thanks for your input and looking forward to more replies
