Ideas for Best Man wedding speech?

Post by ToolGuy »

I will be my younger brothers best man for his wedding in Oct. I have never done this before and was looking for ideas on how to come up with a speech. I know I could tell funny or somewhat funny stories of my brother growing up but I wanted more... My brother and I are eight years apart... Anyone have ideas or a site maybe to look on? Thanks, in advance!

I've got that T-Shirt!I was best man for my brother five years ago (he was mine 10 years ago). We're six years apart in age, but he's among my best friends. The fact that you're thinking about this now is a good sign. You don't have to do a big floor show and have everything memorized, but it's very likely that you'll be making the first speech and toast to the couple. So, your speech should end with something formal (ex. like an Irish Blessing).Chronological organization is always good, but you don't want a version of "This is Your Life." It's more important that you speak about your brother's journey to this moment (marriage) than about you two being brothers. (If I could go back and change some parts of my speech, it would have been to focus more on "him" than "us").Don't be afraid to make fun of any quirks! You can always cap those observations along the lines of "And She Still Married Him!" or "And She Got Him to Stop Doing That!" or "She Does It Too!...they're perfect for each other" I agree with silverawd26 though: you should end it with something sentimental and sincere.Since my brother is a wedding photographer and I assist him several weddings a year, I hear lots of toasts. You can count on 90% of the maids-of-honor to have written speeches that they just bawl through. (Fortunately, you'll go before that.) The best "best man" speeches I can remember have always started funny, brought the guests on a journey though the groom's life up to the moment of the wedding and then offered up a well-spoken blessing/toast to the couple. Oh, and one more thing: practice with a microphone!
