The next-generation Toyota Prius will use a turbocharged engine and lithium-ion batteries to achieve its rumored 94 mpg rating, according to a published report. The latest issue of the U.K.’s AutoExpress magazine indicates a lean-burn 1.8-litre turbo engine will be coupled the THS-II hybrid system with efficient lithium ion batteries to great improve efficiency. Toyota is also said to be considering a plug-in capability as as standard feature. Currently, many Prius owners modify their cars for plug-in charging, but that can void the car’s warranty. In issue 904, the magazine reported the new 94 mpg Prius would offer an improved 0-62 mph time of under 10 seconds. Changes are also likely to come to the exterior of the new Prius. Early last month, we reported that Toyota is considering using design to help differentiate its hybrid offerings from its other models. Here's a link: http://www.leftlanenews.com/20...4-mpg/What I find most interesting is the fact that it uses the 1.8-litre engine. Why could we not all turbocharge our engines and then get even better gas mileage?
How does a turbo mean better mileage except in a Diesel? I would think you'd use more gas!

Hybrids are a joke. They only run electric at 25mph and nobody wants to drive that slow except old people, and those are the ones who shouldn't even be behind the wheel.

As far as the 94 MPG thing goes, I'll have to believe it when I see it. Hopefully that isn't 94 MPG per the EPA tests, we know how accurate those are from the current flock of hybrids out there... But still, tests with the inflated results aside, from what I gather the current Prius in the real world isn't getting near the mileage that Toyota and everyone else has hoped and hyped...

That's one of the reasons for my Vibe. But if they do get let's say 80 mpg then that would be a big leap in technology even for Toyota. And if the turbo is part of that new tech then maybe just maybe it can be adapted to some of our cars.
Don't forget the big battery packs you're using to save the environment --- are made in China... land of environmental disasters at the expence of making cheap junk for the competive market that only cares about a lower price.
