Nope, not that kind of baby... And I didn't trade the car in either, I promise. But I did get a new computer. I ordered a refurbished iMac G5 a week and a half ago and it finally came in today, and I'm definitely impressed. It's really a cool little machine. I it, for sure. It's a big change from my 800 mhz iBook G4 with 256 megs of RAM. It's a 1.8 ghz G5 (which is a 64-bit processor) and although it only came with 256 megs of RAM, it now has 512 thanks to CP upgrading the RAM in his Mac Mini and giving me what came out of it. So far it looks like the only difference between it and buying the machine new is that it came in a rather uneventful box. And that I had to call and request the update software for the new OS to be sent to me because for some reason it wasn't in that uneventful box. Oh well...I'm still absolutely thrilled. Here are some pics...just click the thumbnails for bigger versions.
Very spiffy machine you got there. I was gonna get a MAC but I was talked into getting a dell. I was told that MAC programs are a lot different than the regular basic components that are part of HP or Dell, etc. I got a virus on my computer not to long ago and had one of my friends "restore" pretty much everything and lets just say my wireless internet and even my sound went bye bye. Hopefully I get it fixed soon cause it sure sucks sitting here on the floor with my laptop b/c the internet connection cord doesn't reach far enough for me to sit at a table!
awww. i was gonna get all oogle eyed cause i thought you got the new dual core processor! those are AMAZING! you can run both mac and windows! (not at the same time of course) still, nice! those macs are great systems! and sexy to boot! lol
It's OK to still be googly-eyed because it is still an amazing machine. The new Intel processors are still 32-bit and many applications are not yet universal and have to run in an emulation environment which slows them down significantly. Adobe is one company that's dragging its feet on that one. Factors like that, coupled with the cheap price at 33% off, made me go ahead and get the G5.
it's still a good choice. and best to let them get the bugs out on anything new (imo) so the second gen is always better!still, the G5 is a very very impressive machine! i've installed our internet service on many. i love the macs! so much easier to set up than the PC's. hardly ever do i have to do anything other than plug it in! lol

It was $800...$799 to be exact. I couldn't pass up a $400 savings over what I was going to spend in the fall on a new one, because this way I get to keep that $400 instead of cleaning out all of my savings in August. And I still have the DVD burner to play with too which was my major upgrading point more than anything. It showed up in the refurb store one Friday afternoon when I was looking and wishing, and with a little encouragement from millster and CP, I ordered it within the next 20 minutes. LOL I've been watching for my cousin, and they've shown up again a couple of times, but only for a day or so, so if you're interested you may just want to check the refurb section daily. (It's on the right of the Apple Store site, with the big red tag that says Save.)Welcome to OS X too, BTW, finally! I'm sure you'll love it.Edit: Looks like they have some for $849 right now without the DVD burner...it's a CD burner/DVD-ROM drive version.
wow, that's a pretty good deal. i eventually want to get a mac at home myself. when it comes to media, they can't be beat!i am familiar with OSX. the guy next to me has it on his computer, and i use it all the time. it's ok, but i am much faster with 9. after practice though, i'm sure i'll be just as fast on 10. i have to have it so i can handle indesign, quark6, illustrator10, and word files.

Yeah the apple refurb store is sweet, i was looking at the 12" powerbooks...but once those intel mac's came out my g4 Ti powerbook lost its value by a couple hundered :s So i will have to wait until after coolege, then get a macbook pro!! If your a student or work in the Edu field you can get a discount on apple pc's and even in the refurb store!Drunken...how are you still using os 9? man thats like win95 days. jk. yea macs are so easy for media stuff, even my parents can do it..with out calling me!

It's actually the 17" iMac...but it's still plenty of screen real estate. The 20" iMacs just looked gigantic to me every time we visited the Apple store, so I went with this one. It is a widescreen though, so that helps, for sure.
There was actually a picture of Abby on the desk but it was in the cubbyhole where the printer is now, so she is now framed on a bookshelf in the living room instead. Not to worry though, I have LOTS of pictures of the dogs around my apartment and I think people who come over and don't know about the dogs think I'm a little crazy. I do wish I could have said that my new baby was a dachsie baby though...darn landlord. I'm loving the new computer though...it's really making a lot of my schoolwork easier and helping with my productivity. It does things so much faster that my iBook, which desperately needs more RAM, but in order to install that, I have to take out the wireless card, which was nearly impossible to get in...so I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to get it back out, or if I did, I wouldn't be able to get it back in when I was done.
