Sony Xplod Sub Amazing or Trash?

Post by josholiver1 »

I am looking at a 12 inch sub from sony..its the 12 inch Xplod Sub and it says it can handle 1200 wattsBut my friend sayed that it is just a "marketing skeem" and hes seen them blown @ much lower levels..so my question is is this a good sub? ? ?Also when everyone talkes about under powering there subs and breaking them, what is the lowest it can go? If i get a 300 watt amp will that be to small? Or will a 600 watt amp be to small?I really wanted to get a bazooka tube, but there alittle to expensive

I have two 10" Sony P5 series subs. Had em for oh..three, four years now? They're currently running on a 300w Lightning Audio 1 channel amplifier, and I haven't blown them yet! And they get LOUD. I would ignore the '1200watt' thing. You'd probably better off with an amplifier that can put out about 400w (@4 Ohm)So in that case, look for a 2channel amplifier that can be 'bridged' to 4 Ohm, and look at that wattage rating.

Sony and Bazooka both. Sony has 'improved' but is still crap, but if your on a budget they get'r dun.

I agree with tangerine. Sony, although have improved in the last few years, still aren't very good. Some people have luck with them others don't. Its all in how you use them though. If you really like them get 'em otherwise I would go with a different brand. I like the rockford fosgate punch and polk. You should check e-bay they currently have a pair of 12 in punch for $102.00 including shipping. I'm debating of getting them myself.

Anything new from Rockford (ie, made in the last 10 years) is pretty much garbage. They've turned into a 'everyone knows the name' crappy consumer brand. Polks are always pretty good, but only their MOMO stuff is great. If you're on a budget, the P5s have a good hit and work great in a small box. They take plenty of power and they have a good S/N ratio.
