Question about Being Towed

Post by zionzr2 »

I was curious about the AWD model in a being towed situation.does putting it in neutral allow the rear wheels to rotate freely as in a fwd? Or does it require a dolly or flatbed to prevent damage to the drive system?

Thank You Joat! For the fast reply I thought that was the case...I just forgot that was in the manual and didnt want to go out to the car to look.....Now if I happen to make the same small mistake my wife just made....didnt make it back to the parking space in-time and her car was towed...Will the tow driver see that my car is an AWD and take appropriate action??? Or will they wreck my drivetrain and I'm screwed??

oh man, my sable got towed once... They used a flat bed as its usually the fastest way to grab a car and go and i think because of many AWD cars. But the car tires would be "locked" so towing w/ out a flatbed would result in much smoke and harm to the car...and i dont think the towing company is liable because of the parking violation? not sure on that but i bet they would pull that crap.

at least with my wifes Cavy they got in and released the parking brake. its weird how they do it here....I had to cll the police to ask whats done with tows....they gave me the number for the towing company ...the tow company siad its a block away on a different street. They only moved it. They placed a ticket under the wiper with the violation and tow charge written on the ticket....So we get in and go and just have to pay the ticket to the police and then the poilice pay back the tow comapny.

If you put it in neutral and pulled the rear driveshaft it would be fine.
