It sounds like he's got another buyer desperate for your car. So he's trying to get you to either give up so he can sell it to the new guy at a higher price, or give in and pay his higher price.Be patient. Stick to your original quoted price/deal. Mention your lawyer (even if you don't have one), and "bait and switch", and contacting the local BetterBusinessBureau a few times. Mention that you have several friends (even if you don't) also in the new car buying market, and that you are quickly loosing faith in recommending his dealership to your friends or anyone else you know. Lastly, consider asking the sales manager (or dealership owner) for a new salesman. Explain how much of a jerk this guy has been, and that you refuse to see him get any commission for his idiocy. When I finally bought my vibe, it was after having visited the dealership periodically for two months, and being approached by several different salesmen. I didn't "need" the Vibe, and wasn't in any hurry to buy one. But when I finally met a salesman I felt comfortable with, and who worked hard on my behalf to get me the exact car I wanted, I bought it.KSNeptune
quote:congrats!Just one thing... I thought that you couldn't get a GM deflector. Anyone know the answer for sure?BTW, did you order the vibe mud flaps, or just standard dealer ones?I'm pretty sure the mud flaps are the Vibe's since they had to be ordered from out East. The first batch that came in had to be returned because they were badly scratched. Also, I know the GM Bra you can no longer get but I ordered the deflector from GM. We will see once it come in. I'm also waiting for the vinyl floormats, which were on back order. I hope to have everything installed over the next week or so. I will try to post a picture of the Vibe accessorized.

I just picked up my Vibe GT tonight and drove home in a blinding snow-storm. I'm SO glad I choose moons and tunes over the 17" wheels - thanks to everyone in the wheels and tires forum for keeping me from the summer only tires!I started shopping 2 weeks ago - couldn't find what I wanted, and got the dealer to do a dealer trade. He found exactly what I wanted 127 miles away. I used the 5.7% GM supplier discount, $4K of GM Card rebate points, and the $2K rebate. I fought three different dealers for a week to get an extra $1200 on the trade of my 95 Mazda. ($1200 more than they all swore it was worth.)

quote:I bought mine at Meadow Mills in Mississauga, they treat you like a stranger the minute you drive off the lot. My Vibe will be going to Applewood CHEV OLDS for all service from now on, they have always given me great service and understand that little things count. I bought a 99 Montana there and swore I would never set foot in the place again. They have the worst service on the planet. I don't understand how they survive. I bought my Vibe at Laurie Williamson, (Also bought my wifes 2001 Montana there) which is very close to Applewood. Actually I had my Z24 diagnosed by Applewood and once they had cleared the code and told me it was a tranny problem, I drove right over to Laurie Williamson and traded it in for a Vibe. I will never go to Royal Pontiac/Buick after hearing about VibeRaters horror story.

I have to say, it was the best car buying experience I have ever had. I prepped by reading the book "Don't get taken every time" - hahaha! To make a long story short, I told them I didn't want any of that low-ball offer on the trade nonsense and all those silly games they play, like the salesman saying "he's on your side" "he's fighting for you against the evil sales manager" "there's really no markup in these cars" "everybody gets pin-stripes". I went back to negotiate the deal on a second trip and got really loud when they did try the low-ball "I'm REALLY disapointed in this dealership!...." Then walked out again. Meanwhile, I was in negotiations with two other dealers, one over the web. Then, used all their offers against one another. I also had the infamous "folder" loaded with data from the web on trade in values etc. When I was done with them, they completely skipped the $128 "docking" fee. Remember folks, its the dead of winter - the economy is bad - the dealerships are a ghost town! Don't put up with any nonsense - walk OUT!!! They will have a change of heart and call you back within 24 hours. Leave a Matrix brouchure in the back seat of your trade. Maybe a Ford focus brouchure too. They WILL notice and do everything they can to win your business.

Well, I've had my Vibe for 2 days, and 3 nights (got it Friday at 7:00 pm). Was it worth the 7 month wait .... damn right it was. I've only had the time to put a little over 150 km (90 miles) on it so far, but it has been fun. I can't wait until the break-in period is over so I can finally begin to push it. I want to see what the Vibe can do. I have got it up to 130 km/h (78 mph), but I had to "ease" it into that speed. Smooth ride.I did have the over inflated tire problem that some have experienced. My tires were all at 39 psi, and made for a really stiff ride. I fixed that the morning after I picked it up. The same day I had to go to the dealer for something, and mentioned it to the salesman. He was surprised, and not too impressed with their prep guys. My dealer has been great. Every single salesman knows about us, and how long we have been waiting. They were all great, and we were even joking about it when I went back in. That's why I brought them all a big box of Timbits to show my appreciation that morning (my fellow Canucks know what I'm talking about). Actually, our salesman was so happy for us when our Vibe came in that he gave us a basket of "goodies" as a present along with the keys to my new Vibe. What a nice guy.

I don't know how I got it for $1200 under invoice, not including rebates. I picked Westminster Pontiac dealer in southern California, because I saw (on Gmbuypower) that they had over 18 Vibes in stock, and they had an ad on the paper for a base vibe for about $2000 under invoice. I went in said I would buy one but with different options. 10 minutes of haggling, they gave it to me.I think I got a great deal, since carsdirect (Amazon, which is where I bought my last 3 cars) has it for $50 under invoice. I told my friend about it up in Northern California, he went out and bought one for $1400 under invoice. Again, I saw some ads listing for $2500 under invoice, but of course I never trusted the ad cars (I did purchase 2 ad cars before, but they are always some weird color with no options)may be there is a special promotion that is not being publicized, or just end of the month. but I believe this is now the normal price for a Vibe in California. there are a lots more Matrix here than Vibe. now I am looking for 17" rims to go on my car, anyone has OEM Stock ones?

I have a Lava on order (ordered Jan 28th). Hopefully it comes in soon!! Interestingly, I haven't seen many Vibes in the Twin Cities area. I've seen several Matrix, though.
I was lucky,I was waiting for a new Vibe GT monotone with no luck when my salesman called me and asked if I would consider a used one.I went to the dealer and they had an Abyss monotone with 4700 miles on it.Nothing wrong with it and they only wanted 16,700$.It had the moon and tunes package,16" mags and all the add-ons for the cargo area.I wasn't looking for a dark colored car but I figured this was the only chance I'd ever get to buy one for that price so I jumped on it and bought it the next day. Thankfully I got into this VIBE thing a little later. Paid $18,880 MSRP for a PT Cruiser in August 2001. No rebates, no discount. (Some idiots were paying $2,000 over MSRP.) The $2,003 additional GM Card Rebate got me interested in a VIBE near the end of January. $18,690 MSRP less $2,003 less 2,000 rebate less $1,056 dealer discount got it down to $13,631 plus tax etc. Via internet and phone found just about exactly whjat I wanted. Blue Base plus AT plus Power package - had to take the monotone. After discount and a $1,000 rebate I paid nearly $13,000 for a Colt Vista Wagon ten years ago in 1993.

I took my vibe frosty 2-tone awd out of stock on Jan. 8th, out of dealer stock. They had 3 come in and all were sold over a period of 3 weeks. It has power pkg., moon/toons, mats, hood deflector, vinyl mats, mudguards and a cargo carpet/rubber mat. With 6/60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty included...I bought it for $20,600.00, with 0% for 60 months financing, $6500.00 down (4500 from sale of 93 S-10 Blazer 4dr/4wd, 2000.00 out of pocket). In Fbks., with all the gm incentives, Vibes are flying while Matrices are moving more slowly.
Well i may have paid less for my vibe than anybody...heres the story...my previous car was a '93 jeep grand cherokee....now my father has been accumulating gm points for so long and as i was scheduled to leave for college my brother would turn 16...my dad really liked my jeep for a young drivers car...it is solid and gives a great view over other traffic and of its the quadratrac so its always in 4wheel drive (which for those who dont know, is way different to all wheel drive...its is always powering 4 wheels) so it was pretty much stuck to the road. ANYWAYS...back in the day when he signed the gm credit card points thing the deal was not limited to only using $3500 towards a vehicle (i think thats how much they accept now) it was unlimited....hehe....heres the juicy part...so he wrote to gm and after a discussion they grandfathered him under the old rules...so he goes to pontiac and deals down a vibe as low as he can get it and then shoves in the gm points and whala.....he picks up a vibe for a price i wont disclose....but its a good deal....now he still wants my jeep so i trade him for the vibe after he has put 20 miles on it....even trade...and there you go...my vibe. Now all this was planned in the first place...that i would give him my jeep and he would buy the vibe for me....a good deal on both parts!! so once i got rollin in the vibe i would tell him it was cooler than his 98 volvo v70....well its a reach but its my dad so i can do this.....but he had to out do me....so he got himself a new one just the other day.....see it in the pic....it sinks down to 5 inches of ground clearance or jumps up to 8.2inches (actually .1 higher than my jeep) for off road....i want it bad...its twin turbocharged too....!-Phil

this is just for your info, guys.there is currently a promotion with upromise.com, $450 toward 529 for a GM vehicle.the old rule for the GM card is $7000 for the gold card, $1000 per year for 7 years.if you don't disclose the purchase price, how do you know you got the lowest price?

well as i stated above i dont know what the exact price came out to be but i know it was a fair bit below 10g.......now i also believe since my father signed up on the european gm card (as we were living in england at the time) that the regulations had a slightly different twist but still did not prevent you from purchasing from a U.S. dealership....there was a lot of in-depth details to get it all accepted but hey it worked so i'm happy to have been able to evenly trade and get myself a VIBE!!

I am sure you did pay less for your car than most people - sure makes it easy when you use your Dad's money Can't go wrong with that deal.
Shadow Vibe - two tone (almost no need for the monotone in this color IMHO) - slate interior - power package - moon and tunes - abs - 16" aluminum wheels - and the GD on the radio! http://www.cardomain.com/id/db_vibe
and i worked for my jeep and had to give that away for free in exchange for the vibe.........therefore i worked for the vibe no??if you trade your car in it doesnt mean you didnt pay for your new car-Phil

now...i will admit...i "used" my dad to get the DEAL...hell, w/o his gm points to bring the car to a price that was a even trade for my car i would probably be in the most bare bones chevy cav (I really wanted something w/ warranty for my time away at college so thats why i couldnt get a used car)

no offense taken but i would never have had a new car like this w/o the benefit of the gm points that my father would never have used anyways but some people give me crap about having this brand new '03 car and just dont understand the situation and the fact that i traded for it too. the irony is that the peeps (just about everyone in high school and here at college) have pretty much everything paid for them. i am unfortunate/fortunate to have parents that support my schooling expenses but nothing else. they dont buy me clothes, food, gas, insurance, property tax, spring break trips,....all in all...if i need it or want it....i gotta work for it.....sometimes its a drag....everyone has these great audio systems in the cars and stuff and i say well i only have so much to go around and my mountain biking along with all my other bills is about all i can handle....but on the flip side; i know it has and continues to make me a better and more aware person. for example....the property tax came in on the new vibe...about $500...now i had never paid anything like this on all my previous cars but of course i was stuck w/ the bill....but back to the point....i was complaining about to folks at school and they all wrinkled up their faces like HUH...WHATS PROP. TAX??? And i just sigh and say well someday when you support yourself you'll understand!! -Phil

Info for those who are ordering a Vibe. I ordered on 1/28, and the dealer called to cofirm to me that the car is scheduled for delivery this week (by 3/7). I'd say 5-6 weeks (for U.S. anyway). I'll post when it comes in...BTW - The race is on. My wife is due with our first today (3/2) - no baby yet - and my Vibe is due for delivery this week. The family was taking bets this weekend on which one will be delivered first.
Hi everyone! Woohoo the wait is over! Mine just came in a couple of days ago! Judging by other posts across Canada, it seems I got lucky....-ordered my factory order on Oct. 31/02 (...I know...bad omen)-phoned first week of January, not even a build date; I was "preferenced"-Got a call on Feb. 27, my car was here, ready for pick upDoing the math, that is only a 4 month wait. I remember hearing people in other forums talking about waiting 7 months. Could it be that GM is getting their act together, and giving us Canadians equal treatment? Dealer offered no explanation, saying it was all in the hands of GM.Another point to ponder........January and a little bit of February was "ring in and win" promo, that offered 0% financing on all Pontiacs, including Vibes. If I had ever recieved a build date & VIN, perhaps i may have qualified. I had no build date during early Jan and was told by dealer that he would let me know immediately. My salesman was let go from dealer, so no one got back to me as to when my build date was. Stupid me never checked up on it either (I could kick myself for putting faith in dealer to contact me on that info). Just wondering if anyone got their build date given to them (suspiciously) right after that promo...(yes i am a conspiracy theorist.... )

My Vibe is in and ready for pickup!! (Ordered Jan 28th - 5 week wait time)However, my dealer is actually on the ball a bit (at least so far so good). He said if I can wait a few more days, I could take advantage of an incentive for the Mpls Auto Show that should be announced on Saturday. I could pick it up today. But, since I am in no desparate need, I might as well wait and take advantage of the impending auto show deal.
I picked it up yesterday. No issues found so far, and a whole lotta fun driving it. ...we had snow on Saturday, so its already dirty. I knew it wouldn't take long...
I just got mine on Feb 28, 2003. I have the AWD Shadow with Graphite interior. I'm on a budget and I needed a new car, so I couldn't wait to order one, but if I did it would have been with the Moon and Tunes Package. As it is I was able to get an awesome deal with the 0% financing and a nice discount Woo Hoo go me!

Good choice, I just got my Vibe on Tuesday, already put over 300 miles on it. We got almost the exact same car, except mine is the base, instead of AWD.I really fell bad for the long waits I hear about on here. I went in Monday night to test drive it made a deal, wound up with $2000 rebate plus $1000 GM loyalty rebate. Picked it up Tuesday night!! Haven't wanted to park it since
I am doing a dealer trade, I found out which Vibe I'm getting a couple of weeks ago. The dealer said they should have it by today, and that I should be able to pick it up next friday!! I hope it works out that I can get it next week! I can't wait to have my new Vibe!!!

quote:This has been a terrible buying experience. Every inch of the way this salesman kept finding 'problems'. He's an older dude and when I went to settle up with the business manager, I asked her, "Is this the first car this guy has ever sold?" She had to laugh. Finally got him to agree to honour the original base price when it was ordered. Then when the business manager presented me with the invoice to sign, I noticed that the base price listed was the new price, about 500.00 more than what the vehicle was when ordered. Back to the drawing board. Had included the 1000.00 dollar recent grad bonus in the first deal and he asked for and recieved all the information (copy of diploma) at that time. I called him a couple of days later to see if everything was fine with that and he said it was approved. Suddenly today there was another transcript he needed to get the grad bonus approved. All of this could have been taken care of the past 4 months I've been waiting. Then he had a 'problem' with the ownership registration of my trade in. we had talked about this when the deal was originally done 4 months ago and decided then it wasn't a problem. He's had my original ownership slip in his file since then. Today, it suddenly became a problem again. He wanted me to change the name on the ownership before I trade it in (long story). Again, this is something that is unecessary, but I could have done this the past 4 months while I've been waiting. Then he had a 'problem' with the insurance. I haven't recieved the car yet but he needed confirmation of insurance immediately before the deal could be completed. He's been dragging his feet on getting the dealer prep done. He's told me Monday, but I know it won't be ready then. It was delivered to the dealer last Wednesday night. But hey, they let me look at the car today and it looks great! He's the saleman from hell, but that doesn't diminish the car's appeal. I'm tired. It's not supposed to be this difficult to buy a car.Next time you go to buy a car bypass the sales leaches... They are out only to make money for themselves and will screw you everyway possible. Ask for the fleet manager and deal with them. They do not work on commission but on volume. so it is in their best intrest to sell you the car..... Price is not so much of a concern...... I have had very good luck with the one i deal with and the Vibe was #2 car from him
I greatly enjoy my vibe. In fact my sister's future brother in-law is looking to purchase a new car and I am pushing for him to get the vibe. He was looking at the Hyunadi SantaFe and the VW Pissant wagon. I told him that the Vibe would be the best of the three. Cheaper than the VW and much better than the SantaFe, even though the SantaFe is an SUV the Vibe is a little bit of everything. Woo Hoo Go AWD!!!!!
