I got myself an AEM Cold Air intake for an '03 Matrix XRS. I figured that it would fit in my '04 Vibe GT (didn't think that the engines changed from one year to the next). However, after tearing everything out, the pipe wouldn't fit. In order to complete the installation I would have to cut out part of the fender-well. Does this sound right, or did I receive the wrong sized pipe? Anyone know of a Cold Air intake specifically for the 2004 Vibe GT that doesn't involve hacking away at the car?
You should not have to cut the fender. It's a very tight fit to wiggle it through. If you remove or at least open up the inside plastic fender well and have someone help you move the pipe around, it should go. Normally the only problem with a Matrix CAI is that they fit too tight against the back socket area of the foglight of the Vibe. If this is the case just cut a couple of inches off the filter end of the pipe.
That cai will not fit on an 04+ engine. The 04+ models have an air pump added below the headlight that gets in the way of the cai filter. That's why your filter is sandwiched against the fenderliner.I made the same mistake when I first got my car and tried to install an 03 XRS aem cai on my 04.You can either get the Injen CAI for the 04 XRS, Cosmo cai, or settle for a short ram intake.
the 03 2zz engine WAS DIFFERENT than the 04. i believe they added a smog pump. i don't know if it'll actually fit or not, but i'm sure even so, you'd be throwing a CEL.
