Hello all, I love this this forum. Been lurking here for a while now. But thought i'd contribute with a question myself. My 2003 Vibe AWD has 40,000 km on it and since it's mainly city-driven, i figured I need a good transmission fluid and brake fluid change. Here are my questions.1) Which Tranny fluid do you guys suggest? Specific brand/number? I really would prefer synthetic. However, I have been advised that you cannot get a complete fluid flush for the tranny, so it will have to be mixed with some of the previous fluid. Would it be bad to mix fresh synthetic with old regular fluid? 2) Also thinking of getting synthetic brake fluid, although this might not be as important as the tranny. Any suggestions on brand etc.?3) I prefer not going to GM for these jobs... especially the Tranny since who knows what GM fluid they'll use for my Poyota. Being in the greater toronto area, anybody suggests good quality garages for this job to be done? As it stands I was thinking of buying my own fluids and perhaps going to Mr. Transmission or something. Thanks for any help guys.
hi there....i just joined not too long ago and i hope i can contribute to your question, if you still don't have an answer.in order to do a complete flush, you will either need1). tranny fluid flush kit or 2). drain what you can and fill it back up. 3). or drain then fill, then start your car, wait to warm up (check temp gauge), then drain and fill again. do this until the fluid is all clear to completely drain and fill manually.it is ok to mix with synthetic and would be expensive if you use synthetic as described in step 3. if you are going to use synthetic, i would suggest to just drain and fill. as far as how many quarts to use, you will have to check how much came out. then put back less -1 quart. start the car, let it warm up (check temp gauge), check fluid level, then add. i would not suggest using the cold fluid level indicator.hope this helped you.
I would just do a drain and fill for the Tranny Fluid when you get an oil change done..its actually easier than an oil change (auto tranny) just do it 3 times since it take like 12L of Tranny Fluid or so.. thats what I'm doing with my ride (using Amsoil Universal ATF T-iV compatible)and the brake fluid just buy some synthetic brake fluid at Crappy Tire and get it changed at a local shop that doesn't charge an arm & a leg for the service..cheersMartin
