SURPRISE.......My radiator drain is broken off!

Post by burrpenick »

Thought it was time to change it, but alas, the white platic drain plug under the battery side is barely sticking out. My only idea is to drill out the center and tap a screw into it or break it out. Comments!!!! I am looking at the correct location for the drain plug......right?

Sounds like the right general area for the drain... Good luck!

I have decided to just pull the lower radiator hose to flush my system. An expert told me that the threads on those plugs vary wildly and that I would risk messing up the threads getting it out or forcing one in that didnt match up. My battery had leaked acid and eaten up the air intake fabric tube, so now I am beginning to wonder if it ate that drain plug as well. It appears to be melted off, not broken?PS: Is the green antifreeze labeled as OK for any metal or color of antifreeze OK to use? Thanks, George in Tallahassee

Confused as to why it is broken? Your leaky battery theory may be the culprit here...I changed out my fluid and the valve worked just fine on my car and was not broken. And I would not mix the green with any of the Toyota fluid unless you completely flush the system with a flushing machine. It would probably not hurt. I bit the bullet and bought the Toyota fluid.
