I don't know if this is normal but I have a base 2003 vibe automatic. I hear this noise from underneath of the car. It is not the engine noise. Gears 2-3 I hear it more then the 4th, I hear it when I have my foot on the pedal and it seems like it is coming inside from underneath passanger side. Any one experiencing this noise? I was washing the car the other day and I have sprayed some water under the car and in the exust pipe to wash away the salt, after I drove it and it was more noisier. This noise is there since the day 1. I went to the dealer which they can't say anything other then it must be the air intake. This doesn't sound normal to me. I have driven my friend's Matrix and that noise wasn't there. I still have the warrenty. What should I do?
I would tell them to fix the intke then. Keep taking it to them. It sounds to me like the exaust is clanging. Check the rubber hangers on the exaust. when it is cool push on it to see if anything clanks.

probably the tranny heat shield. it's a common problem easily fixed.
