I'd saya 3V zener diode and a resistor depending on anticipated curent draw, but radioshack doesn't sell 3V zenerszeners are pretty cool, check out http://www.allaboutcircuits.co....html forr more infoIf you knew what the current draw was for whatever you need 3V for, you could just use two resistors in series. Take a 2K and a 3K in series, hook the 2K to +5v and the 3K to ground, that's a total of 5K ohms, at 5 volts would draw 1 mA, the 2K resistor would drop 2V, the 3K would drop 3V. Those values would only really work if whatever load you wanted 3V for was small compared to 1 mA. or you could get a 3V voltage regulator like WARNING BIG FILE - http://www.futurlec.com/Linear/LP2950ACZ.shtml always interesting to find out what new trick you have up your sleeve

I would just put 3 regular 1N914 type diodes from radio shack in line:They'll drop 0.7v ea or 2.1v nominally to take 5v to 3v.http://www.radioshack.com/prod...earchYou may not have to, but if that doesn't work add a 5K Ohm resistor from the Amp side of the diodes to ground.
