Interior noise level revisited

Post by 03frostygt »

I've been looking at old posts and have noted some helpful tips on lowering the interior noise level. What are some products you've tried? I bought some of that Duplicolor soundproofing/ undercoat $6/ can and it worked wonders. I was thinking about trying some carpet pad (cheap) under the spare tire door. What do you think?

I used some spray-on undercoating under all the plastic stuff in the back. Pulled it all out and sprayed away. I also went into the wheel wells but its chipping off. Might try pulling off the plastic wheel well parts and spray them from behind. Other have suggested the asphault sheeting material used on roofs. I think that's a great idea, especially under the plastic parts in the back. The spray is messy and is hard to clean up if you overspray. The interior sure is loud, isn't it?Dave

Hi...its loud compared to my Mother's tiny Aveo and my old Ford Ranger. The spray stuff did tame things back a bit. Frosty, the thread with others ideas is... http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=21396Dave

When I had all the plastic compartments in the back removed to install my Tein springs, I packed Roxul sound and fire insulation under the back seats, down in the back corners behind the wheels, along the sides of the cargo area and even put a layer under the spare tire. In some areas it is 3"-4" thick and others only an inch or two. The difference in noise levels is amazing especially on dirt roads and in the rain.

Thanks for the link, those seem like good ideas. What do you think about carpet pad and spray adhesive?
