Electric locks retrofit

Post by Pierre »

Can anyone recommend a retrofit kit for electric locks for a 2006 Vibe. A local outfit wanted $580 to do it for me and that didn't include the tailgate.

I would expect it to be a little expensive due to the fact that it's a Toyota lock system and is cable-driven instead of the 'normal' lock system which is rod-driven.Cable locks are apparently a pain in the (removed) so there's going to be more labor involved, and putting a solenoid in the tailgate will also be expensive due to the running of wires (at least)I know others have done it, so maybe someone will pipe up with better news!

Thanks, it looks like I gotta bite the bullet. From what you just said $580 doesn't sound too bad. I never realized what a pain not having electric locks would be. Guess I'll have to live without the tailgate lock.

Well, the tailgate might not be THAT expensive.. but they do have to run some wire for it. No more than the other doors i'd think.
