Another CAI question: Best performance gain Injen vs Cosmo... + magnaflow?

Post by Legros »

Hi All,I have a 03 GT model. I'm from MTL so the Cosmo CAI (around 100$) is rather an obvious and cheap choice... But I'm not sure i want to go with the cheap part choice when i play around my engine ... So i'm rather considering the Injen CAI (around 300$)...I was wondering, Cosmo says: +7HP and Injen says: +12HP... But saw some other place that advertised the Injen with a gain of 7-8HP.... Did someone ever Dyno is car with Cosmo or Injen to see the gain before and after? Also, is the exchaust upgrade a must for the performance or mainly for the sound pleasure..? Specially in conjonction with a CAI... Must admit that the exchaust upgrade seems interesting but a bit more costly if not mistaken...thanks for you help.summer finally here... no more winter tire

well cosmo isnt actually cheap.. after shipping its like 140. there is some modification to it though... but you are MODDING your car.I have a cosmo and its the only one for my year so far.I love mine. sounds great and a better acceleration and more HP i havent dynoed it but i can tell.go with an exhaust if you are gonna want a lil bit more and it will help with the intake... more airflow through the bigger pipes. and the sound is to die for.Psycobroker- GVC member has a magna... they are pricey ($360) but his sounded so nice with the intake. So cosmo is a good brand... injen probably has more time in R&D but they do the same thing.Just go with what your wallet can handle i guess or preference.

Mrizzle... you are not realising he lives in Montreal Quebec and can show up at their front door and buy one without shipping lolI'd say your safe bet to run is a cosmo intake or injen intake with magnaflow exhaust. I have Injen and Magnaflow combined and its a noticible gain and sounds great to. I only have the base Vibe so no dyno information for you sorry.

Hi again, well i guess that, for this summer, my wallet could handle a Cosmo+Magnaflow or Injen CAI alone. For what I read from you guys i guess i could take a chance with the Cosmo and gain a Magnaflow in the process

That may be why you see a difference in the claimed gains? however, i don't believe anyone's ever really gotten 14 hp more just from an intake alone. perhaps 8-10 hp. but with an exhaust, i'd say it'd probably be about that 12-15 hp gains, especially on the low end where the 03 GT needed it most. if you really want to spend the money and tie it all together for the best gains, i'd suggest getting a unichip ($600+ USD) or other engine management software.
