Newbie with CAI question

Just bought a '06 Base 5spd Neptune blue today. I had a question about CAI. First off it looks like there is only manufacturer making them for the '06's is that correct. Secondly, is there any negative MPG effect to adding the CAI?

Cosmo is the only one at the moment that I am aware of that will fit. There still might be some modification required.As for drop in MPG not much you'll notice unless you drive your car a little more spirited afterwards. The CAI increases performance and sounds nice to. Most of us with one can't resist shifting at higher RPMs just to hear the sound.

Hey and welcome to genvibe. i agree with Mavrik i also have an 06 base, and ive been looking around, and as far as i kno, cosmoraing.com is the onlyone for 06, they have the short ram ~$75 or they have the cold air ~$120. i think fir the cold air u have to have foglamps ... hmmm... well i hope this helps, and were proud to have you as a member

the cold air requires modification... a new hose for the inlet on the intake to the inlet on the engine.might have to shorten up the piping on the end of the intake.I just sawed off 3" or so. and after lots of curse words and scrapes i got 'er in!!!after all the hassle... it was well worth it!!! i love mine and it sounds amazing... MPG increase might be a no for me cuz i rev high and drive like a bat outta hell (i can say hell right?)If you need help on the install or some pics i took just IM me.

They sure do... i would have bought one. but prefer the CAI. and those SR are easier to install and still do just about the same thing!

Well thanks for all the input. I have had the car for three days now and love it. I will be driving mostly in town anywhere between 20- 55 mostly. HWY maybe 15% of the time. I live in upstate NY so really only 2-3 months total above 75 degrees. I come from the SBC crowd and my belief for those beasts are the colder the more Hp because it gets more fuel in . I am new to the performance 4cyl crowd so any advice to which would make a better choice for my habits would be great.

cold air in the intake means better performance then hot air from a short ram IMO.

obviously, any performance mod will more than likely decrease your mpg due to the inherent need to push your foot on the gas pedal more.

just remember modding a car is like pringles...once you pop, the fun dont stop!!!I already invested like 800 - 1000 bucks. only had the car about 9 months

that's not that bad. i think i was up to about $4K by that amount of time.... sometimes, it's better NOT to add it all up.

no, at the time, i was temporarily living in Fairbanks (i call it banishment), but was getting about $1400 in non-taxed additional income..... so that is how i ended spending a ton of money on the vibe without going more into debt (now, hindsight, i should have put that money on my bills then i wouldn't still be in debt )and as for that intake? it's supposed to fit ALL models?? no way! looks like you'd have to do a lot of modification to make it work. and that price?? that should clue you in right there. it's better to go with a quality product that you know won't void your warranty and others have already proven works. just mho.

i can guarantee that injen will be about twice the ammt as the cosmo, with very minimal gains. better to keep the current intake but if/when injen does come out with one for the 05+ then i'd recommend that one over the cosmo if you hadn't spent the money already. it's kinda like going with the magnaflow exhaust because you heard it was a tad bit better than the borla, yet you already had the borla installed. the small gains don't really justify the cost and expensive you'd incur for the little change. but of course, that's just mho, so it wouldn't really matter what you do with your own money. however, from experience, that's how i spent so much money on the car(s) i've own/ed.
