Rotella T Synthetic 5w40.

Post by Cougar Vibe »

Anybody using this oil in this grade? I've read a few posts over at Toyota Nation about guys using this on 4cyl engines and the reviews are really positive, especially for the cost ($12/gallon). AA in my area was selling this and Delvac on sale recently, so I thought I might give it try during summer. I would think for guys in the southern states, this would be a perfect oil (synthetic diesel oils have more robust additive packages). However, never heard of a Vibe running it...BTW: I don't know if this is in GM or Toyota's future, but Ford sent me a notice that I should discontinue use of Motorcraft 5w30 in my Ranger and use 5w20 now. Since I'm very happy using 10w30 Kendall GT-1, I just filed it .

I use the Rotella T Syn in my motorcycles and a lot of others do also and really like it. Might be a little heavy for the Vibe, especially since the factory says 5W-30. You got to remember that 99% of engine wear is at start up when the engine is cold. A lighter weight oil will flow quicker to vital engine parts at start up when cold than a heavier weight oil will. This may be why Ford is recommending a lighter weight oil and the fact today's engines are built to very tight tolerances.
