Yes the decades old question will finally be settled... First off a motor to me is something electrical. An engine is an internal combustible type device. Now, I am sure lots have heard people say "what size motor your car have?" And I always say I have the 1.8L engine or whatever sized engine.I have also looked up the definition of motor in the dictionary. Basically it goes both ways... But truthfully there is no such thing as an internal combustible electric motor. Today it is really defined now...With all the Hybrids out there that have both a motor and an engine if asked what size motor you have now, will get you this answer "I have a 24 or 48 Volt Motor..."There, I guess that settles things now!
So when a guy oning a Hybrid pulls up and I ask what size engine he has, and he starts to tell him I should laugh at him and call him stupid and squeel off in my vibe..... well.... pull away at the slow pace my vibe goes?
I'm thinking engines are usually internal combustion devices of some sort.I've never heard anyone refer to an "electric motor" as an engine though. And it seems to me that the British folk like to refer to car engines as "motors".

You could ask them what size motor and what size engine next. Or if asked what sized motor and that person thinks a motor is both a gas and electric device they could say which motor are you talking about, I have two?
