Need Exhaust Opinion

Post by wilson1 »

I have an '03 AWD Vibe and looking for either a muffler, or whole system. I've searched quite a bit, but want a more exact answer for a question. I'm wanting a different exhaust, but I'm so affraid it's going to sound like a fart pipe, or pissed off bumble bee. Has anyone found a muffler or whole system that's not annoying sound like all the little 4 cylinders usually make? Any experience with the full borla, vibrant systems? Or how about the flowmaster 60 series muffler? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

Welcome to GenVibe! There are no exhaust systems for the AWD model. I would recommend either a Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler or a custom exhaust with a high flow cat, 2-1/4" piping, larger resonator, and the muffler listed above. Here is a link to my sound/vid clips: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=21231If you put the Dynomax on a stock exhaust it will be a little louder than stock with a nice rumble at idle. Not ricey at all.

I don't have a sound clip but the cat back performance exhaust system from Magnaflow sounds awsome on our cars. Its a nice deep rumble you can barely notice at idle or cruising speeds.

That's what I was told over a year ago when I bought mine, but if you are cruising in a GT at 65mph or more, it can get quite loud inside the car. I think the base model cruises at a lower RPM at 65, so it's probably a little quieter. So, it may depend on whether you have a base vs. GT. It's usually around 3k RPM and above when cruising that you get the droning which can be annoying on trips. Here is a link to a video clip I made which has hard acceleration, medium/regular, and cruising at ~45mph (that's quiet) http://media.putfile.com/Justins-Vibe-GT . Over all though I am pretty happy with the Magnaflow.

I have and AWD, so I think it's a base??? Would replacing JUST the muffler w/ a dynomax 20" gain anything? And would it sound like a weed eater?

Not too sure about the Dynomax muffler, but since you have the 1ZZ engine in the AWD I imagine that it would be quieter at 60mph compared to a GT at 60mph (1ZZ lower RPM).

And would it sound like a weed eater?i have the awd and i replaced just the muffler with a dynomax ultraflow. it has a nice subtle rumble at idle and it's not to bad when heavily accelerating. it can't be heard at all over my cai from inside the car. there is no really raspy sound.
