I have had very good luck with Pirelle (sp?) 3000s. They are quite, smooth and long wearing. Discount Tire had the best deal on them the last time I bought a set.

Wonder if the Goodyear Assurance Tire (or any tire) is less prone to hydroplaning. My sister-in-law had a near fatal accident recently caused by hydroplaning in heavy rain - flipped the car several times. Seeing the car you wonder how she survived. Broken neck, back, ribs, wrist etc. etc. Will be month's in recovery. Lexus 430 - and none of the 8 or so airbags went off. I don't know how fast she was going. I always back off to no more than 60 mph in heavy rain. Maybe that's still too fast.

Thank you for that tire performance chart reference. With all the safety stuff you would think there ought to be some minimum requirement for hydroplaning resistance. Brings to mind something I have been harping on for years - the car companies/dealers should offer better tires as extra cost options on new cars. The customer would like that and they could make some additional profit.
