where should it idle?

Post by LuvinMyVibe »

where should my vibe idle when in gear? right now its at about 8000 rpm's and I am experiencing a little vibration, but when I push it into neutral it goes up to 10000 rpm's and is fine with just a small vibrations.

Somewhere between 650 and 800 RPM seems to be the norm for an idle at normal operating temperature.I've got a major gripe with the way my car idles as well, it won't idle smooth if it is in gear - very unstable and sometimes acts as if it is going to stall. Throw it in neutral and it runs fine. The dealer tried to address the issue but ultimately didn't really accomplish much, it still idles terrible. I often wonder if this engine is even capable of a smooth idle from what I've seen with my car and others, they all shake and twitch to some degree... Just some worse than others.
