Your talking about the Honda fit that is designed and priced for the consumer who can't afford a Civic?I don't know much about them other then that to say not to or go ahead and get one. I would expect it to be cheaply made since its marketed for those who can't afford a civic... I'd go for the Vibe.Yet the Fit could perhaps be a tuner model and if thats what you wanna do, it may be the car for you.

No offense, but the Honda Fit looks a little like the Vibe from the front and a lot like the Chevy Aveo from the side. It seems a whole bunch of cars coming out lately resembles our Vibes. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery, if that's the case then the Vibe rules! Jim

JimAgreed!I'd never even heard of one before this thread so I googled a pic and thought it was an Aveo at first - the photo was even orange like the Aveo they always show in ads.

Or low $20,000's for one with options and stuff on it, it's a wonder why people can't afford them. That's getting into midsize car territory price-wise. They've moved the Civics up a wee bit too much for poor people, hence the need for the new cars like the Fit. I don't care for the Fit at all, but you get a decent amount of stuff for $15,000 despite being in a tiny package. I still wouldn't own one, nor would I consider the new offerings from Toyota or Nissan in this segment either.

Right you are sir! Sorry chyv1083 I'm not trying to bust on you, if you like the look of the Fit, go for it. I'm sure Honda will throw out all kinds of incentives and the the rush of aftermarket mods will pop up as they do with most of the Honda lines. Jim
I definitely hear you guys i mean, im just a little torn because for real I really want to get the vibe, but by the time i get options imma be paying out of the @$$. I mean in a sense I wasn't that turned on when I first saw the fit because #1 it doesn't have that much horsepower #2 it only has a 10 gallon tank so it makes me think that shoot even though it gets 31/35 or something like that, it would be like paying the same amt of gas for the car I have now(26/34). because of frequent refills. The only reason im sorta wanting to get it is because of the safety and the options that already come with it for the price. ai yai yai. I need guidance. Then again I have that GMAC auto discount thing to consider crap. Sorry guys for rambling on about this but its a big thing cause Im looking to buy jan 07.
You can't put a price on safety... And things like side curtain air bags may just help your noggin when that inattentive hummer driving soccer mom yacking on her stupid cell phone runs a red light and T-bones you... The differences in crash tests for the same models I've seen that do have and don't have side air bags/etc. are astounding, enough to make me really see that it is worth the extra couple bucks. I regret not getting ABS and side air bags on this car... Unfortunately, it was pretty much impossible to find one with ABS and side air bags since you're lucky to find Vibes on the lot here at all, let alone with certain options. Then I really couldn't have afforded it either since the Vibe's sticker price isn't necessarily low to begin with. But I will have all that stuff on the next car, simply because you never know when you may need it. And fortunately I've got a car picked out with gobs of safety stuff standard so I don't have to worry about extra costs or availability of a model with the desired equipment. I just looked deeper at the Fit's specs, kudos to Honda for things like ABS, the four extra air bags, i also have to give them a even on that $15,000 civic with no radio as it has 'em standard too. I'm glad to see auto makers are starting to offer increased amounts of safety equipment on their lower models, people on a budget need to live too, dang it!

true true i definitely agree. some girl hit my car and i was stopped in traffic Who knows what could have happened had i been moving. i have nothing in my car and got a horrible symbol rating as far as safety. thats why this is sounding so attractive coming standard and all. choices choices
then again i really want to see what pontiac is going to do for the 07 vibe and if they redesign it. Im hoping they come up with some more standard saftey features too
The 2007 model year is going to be a crappy one for the Vibe, so you probably shouldn't expect too much. The base will be there, but the GT and AWD will no longer exist. And if Vibe history MY2005> is any indication, the General will probably decontent the car even further while inflating the sticker price. They may surprise us, who knows. A model at the end of its lifecycle could be made attractive - GM could easily tweak the numbers and play around with the hardware configuration if they really wanted, and maybe even gain some ground on the newer kids out there in the process. Give more people the things they want and do it for less money. But we probably have to wait until the 2008 model year to see the big changes, if the car will even exist at that point.

well, sorry for coming in soo late.the fit is ugly. plain and simple. now. what alot of people don't really get about safety and ratings is that all cars are compared to their own physics. a fit is crash tested againts a simulator which reacts as though anotehr fit hit it. but in a world where most cars aren't fits. when a suburban hits you... 5 star might really only be 2. side bags should definately be standard on all cars by now. they would aide alot. but going for a tiny box with because it's got a 5 star safety rating.. might not be so safe after all.plus if you're not in the modding of cars.. then you are going to seeing alot of eye sores. for some reason. all hondas have tuners behind them. the damm element has alot of aftermarket. yoou would be compared to them. you might or might not like that.
The Fit is Car and Drivers first place pick in their comparison of 7 compacts priced at $15,000. See May's issue...Base price $15,000, price as tested $15,000...
Yea thats mainly what I want to do also is add aftermarket modding to make it my own personalized car. Also as far as the crash test rating mentioned before i mean you might as well say that the vibe has the same chances or even might be worse since alot of safety stuff including the side airbags dont come standard for those who couldn't afford it. I think they are good cars in thier own ways i guess. I agree the fit is underpowered. Out of curiosity why hasnt there been more after market products for the vibe? I really wish they had the kit used on hotrod.com (vibe FX) available just obsessed with it. I guess the only reason why the fit is so attractive is the safety. I customized a vibe on pontiac.com and after putting in all the options im already waay past 19k and to me that doesnt make sense. I didn't even know it didnt come standard with automatic which i think is major crap (no offense anyone. Sticks are cool too but when it comes to that LA traffic.....ugh i guess im to lazy to focus on two things at once lol j/k anyways) Im not sure if the GMAC auto discount would even make a diff along with w/e incentives they have. All i see is a $500 rebate or something to that effect. Maybe they will have more towards the end of the year. I will definitely give both a test drive because I do like the vibe and i guess the fit grew on me because of all of the standard safety. I wasnt turned on by the design but I figured that would change once they came out with kits bla bla bla.......................
Quote, originally posted by Mavrik »the Fit is about the same size as the Vibe right? and it only has 109HP... talk about underpowered. While I haven't paid attention to exterior dimensions, I am assuming it is going to be significantly smaller than the Vibe. The new small cars from Honda, Toyota, and Nissan are competing with subcompacts that have been around for a while such as the Accent, Rio, Aveo, etc... And ~110 HP is the norm for cars of this size... These a step below being something of Corolla or Civic sized...

If you're worried about the amount of power in the car, the difference in engine output between the Vibe and Fit will likely be negated by the Fit's lighter weight (~300lbs lighter) and 5 speed automatic transmission.I can't say I care for the the Fit's styling either, however I will admit that I too am intrigued by the car!

I'd say it would balance out just fine. It's all relative, less power in something with less mass probably translates into the same experience you'll have behind the wheel of something with slightly more power and mass...
