Tinted head/taillights.

Post by damronjr »

I'm going to post this against my better judgement b/c I know someone with $$$$ out there will beat me to it, but I found a guy on MO named Ozone who had some sleek-@$$ taillights and headlights and I asked him how he did it. Here is is response and a link to some pics of his Trix. I figured this was an awesome option for those of us with a lack of aftermarket parts. I planned to do this to my lights but I don't have $$$ for it at the moment.http://JonsTintedTails.comhttp://jonsti ... oyotaQuote, originally posted by (ozone on MO) »He uses a special tint paint diluted with solution to make the tint more or less dark (theres five different shades you can go). after that, he applies a high automotive gloss to seal the tint to the plastic. its not vht, its a special mixture he usesYou can see more of his work at http://JonsTintedTails.com. My tails were done over a year ago, costed $120 - I just got my headlights done about a month ago, costed $120 as well. Being as its applied to your headlight/tailight directly, youll be out of commission without heads/tails for a few weeks while it ships out and tints. I bought aftermarket headlights (x3) and oem tails for the occasion.Glad you like them :]-ozoneps. yes the aftermarket for the trix and vibe are awful...so I decided to roll custom Quote, originally posted by (ozone @ Apr 2 2006, 08:44 PM) »damronjr: Custom smoked by a guy in New York 8) then coated with a automotive gloss to shine just like my paintQuote, originally posted by (damronjr @ Apr 2 2006, 09:49 PM) »Did he use VHT or something different? They look awesome, and with a lack of aftermarket stuff for the Vibe this would be perfect! What did he charge you, or rather what would this cost normally?

I emailed him to give me a quote. $120 is not bad. You're right, it is pretty pricey but they look great from what I see in the gallery. Thanks for the post!!! I've been looking for blackout taillights for years now.

I have tinted taillights on my Grandprix before using this cool spray paint called VHT Nightshades it's a spraycan with this smoky clear look to it. It looked great and you still can see your lights in it. I will have to track down some pictures of them for you. Total cost of MOD was like 6 bucks for the spray. I think they have it at Auto zone!!! Gretch

lol yea, I'm gonna go on a high speed chase before I turn 20 just to have the experience before I turn mortal.Anyways, I emailed him and he said it would be about $85 plus shipping. If I can find another car for work next week I will have my tails in the mail by Monday! Will take two days to finish the lights plus what ever time shipping takes. So if I send them out Monday I could get them by Friday if I'm lucky. Thanks again for sharing Damron I would have never thought about getting it custom done, I was still waiting to hear from Bluebat about blacked out tail overlays!

I'd probably feel better doing this to a 2nd set of taillights and swapping them when desired.
