http://www.autonews.com/apps/p...fsect=states what we've known for some time....awd and gt are gone. BUT, it also says pontiac may bring them back WHEN THEY L00K AT THE NEXT GENEREATI0N VIBE.so it seems the vibe isn't dead after 07

i hope they bring them back for the new vibe as they need something to compete with the dodge caliber.

I bet most of those AWD vibes were sold here in Alaska. All the vibes I see here say awd on the back hatch.

The article mentions that part of the reason for dropping the AWD and GT was because they wouldn't meet new emission standards.Does that mean that the Matrix XRS will be dropped as well? Same as the GT...

that. bull the awd has less hp(because of exhaust)than base.it should have more emissions. and the gt.you cant tell me the gt has more emmision than a 300 hp turbo caliber rt of even a rsx for that matter.

wouldnt other cars with the 2zz be having the same issues? or are toyota's other 2zz's that much different from the matrix/vibe 2zz?

I suspect the "next generation" vibe they refer to will likely be a delta or epsilon based vehicle...probably delta if anything. I'd like to see the vibe become a "true" GM car instead of a rebadged corolla. Put a friggen ecotec in there and give that girl some oooomph.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

(In the 'can't see the forest for the trees' category)Remember that there has to still be a PONTIAC Division (and for that matter, a General Motors Corp.) before there can be a next generation Vibe. At this point, and with a Delphi strike looming large, I wouldn't bet much on either GM or Pontiac being around unchanged by 2008.

So, it might be a washI'm one of those people. I can't stand the ecotech motor, it's noisy, and it's not very powerful in standard trim. Sorry, I know we have a lot of GM employee's on here, and it's not that I don't feel for the average GM lineworker, but the corporate upper crust have absolutely screwed the company up so badly that I doubt they can recover. And to limit production of high demand lower profit cars doesn't help, because those people will go buy a Toyota, or a Honda, or...a Hyundai.

I bought the Vibe for the toyota reliability, as my teenager will be using it down the road. However, I bought my truck (GMC) because of the high tech I-5, heavy duty auto trans, and locking diff. If there was an American made sporty car like the Vibe with great gas mileage that was also as reliable, I'd have bought it.

If you would like to confirm the regulations, you can start with the EPA and CARB. There are requirements for emissions that all vehicles and corporations must achieve. Yes, GM is not going to build over 300k Impalas and sell the excess to fleets. GM is no longer pushing to run the plants at a capacity that keeps all employees working. They have a business plan that identified the quantity of vehicles that they were going to build, and they are going to keep to that plan. It is amazing how many MBA's know how to improve GM without every seeing what is going on within the company, know the regulatory environment, and all the other details.
