Unorthodox Ultra SS - 1ZZ VVT-i Pulley Set

Post by BlueCrush »

It consists of a lightened crank and alternator pulley that is the same diameter as stock. Has anyone had experience with these on a 1ZZ engine only?

I have an Unorthodox crank pully (that's smaller than stock) and an AEM True Power pully for the alternator (whitch is larger but lighter then the stock. Together I can use the stock sized belt. I liked the little added kick when I take off from a stop or go to passing speed. It's not much, just a little noticable. Had it for about 4 months now with no problems.

Have you noticed any additional engine vibration?

Not really, It does idle a little different. It fluctuates by maybe 100 rpm or so if it's just sitting for awhile. I noticed more vibration from the sport header on WOT more then the pullies.

do those pulleys take power away from the air conditioner ?EDIT: nvm i found out what pulley's do what. The aluminum lightened ones are just for looks and weight reduction right? no real performance upgrade?

I'm pretty sure that because of the fact that they are lighter, they will turn easier = quicker giving a small boost in performance

To correct my first post, after researching I found out that Unorthodox Racing only has an underdriven crank pulley available for the Vibe and not a lightened oem sized pulley.UR's Alternator pulley only 5mm larger in diameter than stock.Alutec is the only company that has a lightened oem sized crank pulley for the Vibe and it has to be ordered from Singapore. The lightened pulleys do NOT give you any gains in horsepower it only frees up horsepower you already have.

bluecrush put it in a good explanation the free up horsepower... what happens is it takes less of the horsepower the engine is already making to turn a lighter pulley so it allows that horsepower to be transferred elsewhere

They also have a really nice 'whine' when you first take off from a stop and at higher rpm's. Better throttle response, also. Reminded me of my Ninja reving.I may have to look into those same sized, but lightened crank pulley?

You can get the Alutec oem sized crank pulley here: http://www.motorexonline.com/crankpulleys.html for $130 shipped. You will have to send them an e-mail of what you want. They will send you a reply e-mail with a quote and the paypal address to send payment. It took 5 days to receive mine once I paid. Here is what it looks like:I won't be installing it until Summer.

Hey BlueCrush! You are golden for the 1zz. 2zz is bad news but 1zz is fine. Some people say it might be a little risky but I think you should be golden!
