protective tape needs protection

Post by Frosty2005 »

Anyone else out there have the same problem as me with the protective tape back by the rear wheels on the rocker panel getting beat-up and peeling off? I suspect the car washes have contributed to this but gravel on winter roads hasn't helped much either. I just ordered replacement tape. A 3"x3" piece of this tape costs me $55 plus tax. Seems outrageous for a little piece of tape? Not too impressed, but it's ether that or my paint gets even more beat up.

This was more of a problem back on the 2003 and some 2004 Vibes (the ones without the revised rockers). I didn't realize the 2005 monotones would still be affected, until I remembered the monotones didn't get the revised cladding finally until the 2006 model year. The other issue on the 2003 Vibes was when the tape would turn a yellow-ish color (for me, it was most noticable on my Frosty Vibe). This would probably be a reason you can really see this effect you mention on your Vibe as well, due to the color. There were pics of the areas where the tape is applied back in this thread:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=7620My dealer hooked me up with the replacement tape a couple years ago so luckily I didn't have to pay for it. It was a pretty time-consuming process for me to remove and re-apply (correctly) due to the curvature of the areas involved.
