amp/sub/speaker questions

Post by happyhead »

I've been looking at this message board for awhile and have been really impressed. Nice to see people working together for a change. I will start by saying I know very little about car audio. With that said I am looking to add a sub. I currently have a Kenwood KDC-MP728 head unit hooked up to a Kicker KX650.4 amp. The amp is going to all four door speakers. I was wondering if i could have the amp running to just the front speakers and then have the last two channels bridged to a sub. leaving the rear door speakers runing from the hu???? is this possible and/or is this a good idea???? i've got clif design components up front and two ways in the rear, if that makes a differece. Thanks in advance.

First of all, Welcome to GenVibe!Looking at the specs on your Kenwood HU and Kicker amp, it looks like you'd be able to add a sub like you're wanting. I'll probably be corrected on this, but I don't think you'll run into trouble combining/bridging 2 channels off the Kicker to a sub. You're not going to be delivering much power to a sub however (looks like about 80w into 4 ohms). To make your installation a little easier, I would suggest driving your front speakers from the HU (instead of using the amp). It should have enough power (22w x 4).Let us know how it turns out!
