Trailer Hitch Costs

Post by Priorguy »

Hi..I just purchased a 2006 Vibe and was planning to get a trailer hitch installed...just wondering where and how much people have paid ? (more specifically in Canada) My Gm dealer is quoting me $320+ tax installed wiring included. Thanks

Welcome to the board. I'm down near Carp. Check using the search feature but the price doesn't seem too bad. CheersAndrew

Welcome to Genvibe! You can find Vibe hitches on Ebay for $100 + shipping and install it yourself. It just bolts on - very easy. Then just take it to the GM dealer to get it wired. You might only end up spending $200 that way. I installed my own hitch I bought off of another member here and am going to get it wired at the dealer at my next oil change.Good Luck and again, Welcome!

Is the wiring very hard? I have done all my own cars before, but like my dads ford escape, he had to wait 6 months after purchase for a harness to be available! but there was some splicing involved.

I think I paid like $90 at ehitches.com. It's extremely easy to install. As for the wiring, someone did a write up on it, looks really easy, but it's too cold for me to do it myself right now, so I don't have any personal experence w/ the vibe.

I got mine professionally installed too - and pretty sure it was about the same price - actually just found the reciept - got mine at The Trailer Hitch Centre here in London - was $323.85 after taxes. That's hitch, wiring, drawbar, and ball. Oh - and the cute little rubber hitch plug of course.

Wiring and hitch install are very easy, definitley do it yourself.Note: Our gas mileage goes to crap when towing anything, at 65mph i usually average 20mpg towing virtually any trailer.

I went to Cobra in Mississauga and they sell Hidden Hitches for $199 installed.. they will do the wiring too.. for like $15 or so.. but if its an easy install that you can do yourself .. maybe you might score it for less cheersMartin

You know, I haven't noticed a real hit to fuel mileage at all.In the winter, my mileage (mostly city driving) hovers around the 22mpg mark anyway. When towing, it's mostly on the highway -- so my records show getting around 33mpg highway (70mph) unloaded, and about 30mpg with a loaded trailer.Could depend on the style of trailer I suppose
