Anyone do their own Fiber Optic lighting?

Post by northvibe »

This summer if I have anytime I'd like to try some fiber optic lighting on some projects. Has anyone done their own ? Like the dodge caliber has the lit up cup holders, would be cool to custom that in the vibe! or more.

Sorry, fixed the link. It's an led in the cupholders.

hmm thanks for the link, but i want that soft glow from a ring around it, ala caliber. with plastic fiber optic i think that would be possible. I would also do the glove compartment and arm rest holder stuff.

Is that neon rope (EL) or fiber? Usually fiber optics don't actually 'light up'. You'd want to get EL rope. I think..

if you have the open or "non coated or cased" fiber optic it allows the light to emit or escape from the fiber optic thus glowing when the led is on. When its off it would be clear and almost non noticable.
