Catalytic converter cost re-imbursement?

Post by Mase »

Does anyone know if California will re-imburse a driver on the cost of replacing a catalytic converter on an unmodified engine? A friend of mine could really use that kind of info if such a thing exists.Thanks.

The fact that the engine is unmodified is beside the point of C.A.R.B. and their emmissions concerns

I'm out of waranty and looking at needing to replace the cat converter on my car, and the GM dealer wants $442.US + tax for one. Toyota, on the other hand, wants $1100.US for one for a Matrix. So, if your friend has a Matrix, perhaps he ought to look into buying the replacement from GM instead. Also, not that according to http://www.epa.gov/OMS/cert/factshts/catcvrts.pdf it is illegal to sell a used catalytic converter unless it has first been tested for properr operation, so as a consquence, junk yards ( at least the ones near me) won't bother, and won't sell them

I thought there was a longer warranty mandated by the feds on emission parts like that catalytic converter.
