tranny gasket

Post by racersforford »

is our tranny pan gasket reuseable? I have a FWD. I did a search and didn't find anything. Well, I did find a post that saved me $10 a quart on fluid by going to Toyota, Thanks!

Not worth it. A replacement is like 3-5$ if you go to the Toyota dealer. Make sure you trace the shape of the gasket by looking at the pan or bring the gasket in. The Toyota dealers have no idea how to tell what one you need.... even if you tell them it's the same as a Matrix XR they'll still have 3 to choose from.

Well, I did find a post that saved me $10 a quart on fluid by going to Toyota, Thanks! It is a cork gasket, so if your careful and lucky you may get away with using it again. I understand why you would want to, my local Pontiac dealer charged me $28 US. Remember this is only the gasket, it does not include the filter (strainer). BTW the strainer looked just like any other ATF filter. Ouch...that wont happen again. I paid the outrageous amount because it was a "special order". Pretty funny they don't consider this a part to have on hand. When they checked there were only two in the whole Phoenix area. My old gasket came off nice so I will pick up $3 worth of cork and make another. If you order one make sure it is the correct one, there are at least two different ones(18 hole & 19 hole). Here are a couple pics.

another pic.boy it has been a busy day...rotated tires, changed engine & trans oil, installed Optima battery and cleaned a couple cubic feet worth of pollen, bugs and other nasty debris out of the hvac filter.
