New Radio Installation Help

Post by Marco922 »

I am shopping around for a new stereo to install into my '03 Vibe. Does anyone have any tips for me? What sort of mounting equipment will I need? Is there any certain type of radio that I need to buy? I appreciate your help...

I had a indash, single disc CD player with Moons & Tunes (*hated it) I replaced it with a DOUBLE DIN, yes DOUBLE DIN, Pioneer FH-P4200MP single CD, radio and cassette player. I also have a 6-CD changer in the glove box. The guys who installed it were able to use the stock amp and speakers. Some day I will replace the speakers with some better 4 ohm ones. Maybe I will just bypass the amp because this radio has planty of power for me.I think it is worth the time and money to pay someone who knows whatb they are doing to install a sound system in this car. Car stereo installation in this particular car is tricky.Hope this helps.

As for what to buy, I think the only thing to consider is "will it fit?" Other than that, spend as little or as much as you'd like! You only need these three parts: A GM to Motorola antenna adapter, a wiring harness adapter, and a dash kit to mount the radio. I just had my stock radio die again in my car, so instead of pursuing another replacement, I decided to go aftermarket. I had purchased the mounting gear from Circuit City just in case I found something locally I just had to have and that way, I could install it immediately. The part numbers I bought were Metra 80-2003 for the wiring harness, and I believe 99-8025 for the Metra dash kit for the Vibe/Matrix. I never found anything I liked locally, so I ended up getting a stereo from Crutchfield, who like Northvibe I will also highly recommend! The price is right and the service is great, and you'll get a free document on how to tear your car apart and replace all of the audio equipment. Even with moon & tunes, I found the install to be a breeze. Things went without a hitch for me - all I had to do was hook the thing up and I was in business. There were issues that people have had previously, mainly with the audio amplifier as well as the antenna amplifier so you may want to be prepared for that just in case.

Is it hard to hook up the ampamp-wire through firewall in front-to battery?
