Fred Rogers has passed away

Post by Stang2Vibe »

Shortly after 7:00am today, I learned on TV that Fred Rogers of the famous children's show "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" had passed away from stomach cancer sometime last night. I thought that I would pass this along as he had become a cultural icon here in North America. Many of you, like myself, had probably watched his show regularly as a child and were touched in some way by the lessons in life he taught. Many of your children may have benefitted from his work in the same way. He was one of those truly wonderful people who did so much to try and make the world a better place for all people. He was a native Pittsburgher, so his loss touches many here in my hometown in an even deeper way. He gave so much of his time, caring, attention, and money to so many in this area. He has won numerous awards locally and nationally, and this past June, President Bush awarded him the Congressional Medal of Freedom for his life's work.An ordained Presbyterian minister and faithful public servant, he will be missed by children of all ages and faiths. He won the respect and admiration of all the lives that he touched. He was a truly good man in every sense. May his soul be graciously welcomed into our Lord's eternal "neighborhood" of heaven.Fred McFeeley Rogers--1928-2003--

Yes, he is missed by many of all ages. His show went national for the first time in 1968. Ended in 2000. That's a long time. PBS reported that they were getting about 1 email per second from people expressing condolences and relaying their memories. That's a lot of email.
