Tranny Oil??

Post by philndz »

I believe maint. is quite different between an automatic and a 5/6 speed. for a stick shift what should be done. again i saw somthing on matrixvibe that was saying tranny oil should be done at 15k miles...is this correct and is it a check or actually an oil change.-Phil

The manual states to change the 75W90 oil in the manual trany every 30,000 miles.Amsoil makes 75W90 and once installed in the vehicle actually never needs to be changed under normal driving conditions. If you tow a trailor then at around 60,000 to 75,000 miles I'd do a oil analysis to find out how the oil is doing. It'll probably still be perfectly fine though.http://www.twocom.com/high_performance_ ... be_75W.htm

Personally I am going to change it around 15,000 miles because there will probably be some break-in wear particles in the fluid. Then I will probably change it every 100,000 miles (using a good synthetic fluid). Its cheap, easy, and what the heck!Jason

DABEAR95 makes a very good point with the break in prcess and what not that goes on when the vehicle is new. It's all ways good to get the fluid changed in a manual early because there is no filter of any kind on maunal transmissions.Back to the AMSOIL 75W90 there recommend the fluid never needs to be changed. It's kinda of a install it a forget type deal.

quote:HAYNES dont have a manual out for our car yet right?? Not yet. I checked their website (haynes.com) and it looks like they are still working on publishing manuals for 2002 vehicles, let alone 2003. I wouldn't expect a Hayne's for awhile. The only other decent one would be the Service Manual available from Helm (helminc.com). That is the same information that is available online to the GM techs at the service centers.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id ... ead?id=449

From what I remember.......its is NOT necessary to Change the Tranny oil on STD transmission, unless, the gasket starts to go, and you see leaks, or if you are extremely agressive and have fried the clutch then ..I would agree on changing it!..Otherwise if it aint broke don't fix it!.........On my Mustang I never fried my clutch and had it for 10 years.....neither did I ever change the Transmission oil! Clutch was still kicking very good at 148,00 Kilometres

Whatever you choose to do, go with the synthetic oil and you should never have to do it again.

is the drain plug easy to find on the vibe....from underneath the car....im sorry but im really (removed) w/ the dealership...i had them charge me for an oil change once and i got the car back and happened to fill the washer fluid...as i looked inside the engine the filter looked dirty like it had been on for a while....i suspected they hadnt replaced it...so i checked the oil and it was dark dark brown....no doubt it was never changed.....they said it was a big mistake and made it up to me by doing the service and giving me my money back and giving me another free service but i want to be sure by looking that the bolt has been touched......-phil
