Dream come true or Nightmare decision?

Post by Lancer »

A few weeks ago I learnd that one of my wifes co-workers at the club has found a guy in Greece with a Nissan Skyline (built and has nitrous)he would sell her for $7000. Best thing is that he is offering to pay for shipping! And she want's to see it before buying but is not totally committed to it. Now tonight I learned that my brother-in-laws', wife's cousin wants to sell his totally modded Evo8 (it does low 12's in the 1/4mile.) He is asking for $30k but I think I could get him down to around $24k. Both are my dreamcars.I'm still keeping the Vibe no matter what. The wife needs a reliable car to haul the family. So which one should I try to get? I'm initially leaning on the Evo since I've seen it and it's 'family'. I'm not even sure what state the Skyline is in, but for $7000 it almost doesn't matter. The guy said that he couldn't drive it where he lives.I'm not gonna sleep for a while thinking about this.

The first sounds like a one of those, "I know a guy who can swing this deal" things. Never buy a car from out of country, if it isnt a scam, it still is going to have a ***** of a time clearing customs. If it were me I would go for the evo, at least you could get altizza's :~} BTW, your right, family usually dont try to screw each other (usually)For real the first one sounds too much like one of those off shore money scams, I wouldnt do it.

Customs is not easy, I could not even bring my Austin Mini back from Germany. It was 4 inches too short in length. It is going to cost that guy more than 7K to ship the car, so this is a scam.

Possible scam on the first one, and if real be prepared for it to be a complete wreck at that price plus you will have to spend on shipping it over, customs, and it might not be allowed in due to emissions and safety issues.

The skyline isn't certified for this country. Even a foriegn purchased camry wouldn't be. You wont be able to insure or drive it on public roads here anyway. I think there's a 2K mi limit on a specialty vehicle loophole but that's about it.

I got my 70 (ish) Mini back with no issues in 1999. What's this 4" too short thing? The Skyline would never be able to pass emmissions and saftey standards. Well, it could but there would be tons more money dumped into it.

Customs told me my Mini was too short in length (I guess length really does matter LOL). It had something to do with the bumper, it was more cosmetic than practical. I could have bought a new bumper for something like 1000 Marks, but that was about what I paid for it. I miss the hell out of that car, fastest go-cart I have ever driven. For those who have never driven one, find one, it is a great experiance.Oh, BTW this was in March of 98.
