BAH: Gauge Choices

Post by VibeGriff »

So, i am in an area that is pretty well known for having cars stolen or at least ripped apart (Univ. Houston Main Campus, and i live there). So i really cant have seven gauges telling me all the info I want to know about my engine -- too noticable and ahrd ot secure. And i wanted to get a base before I started some serious tuning over these next months. So anyways, I am looking into either the GReddy Informeter: http://www.greddy.com/prod_informeter.htm or a Defi Display: http://www.nippon-seiki.co.jp/....html. I was wondering if anyone knew if the Defi Control Unit II took regualr sensors -- since the sensors Defi' sells are too expensive for my blood. And I was also wondering what information our ODB II puts out in regards to Air/Fuel, Speed, Mani Pressure and so forth. Any help greatly appreciated and sorry for the kinda long post.

Here's an option and you can unplug it and remove it from your car or take it from one car to another. I really like mine. http://scangauge.com/

I'd probably do the Greddy unless you want to build the Defi system. It looks like the display unit you found only connects to the 'brain' of the Defi system, which, as you said, is probably ludicrously expensive. If you want to save money, get the scangauge, as djb383 brought up. No gauges, but it gives you plenty of info.

thanks for the info. yeah, the brain is about 100 at a local shop here. The killer is the sensors at any were from 50 to nearly 200. Im trying to find someone who is Defi' related and then get them to tell me if i can use just any old sensor or not. Not so much luck....
