No aftermarket shocks

Post by GoLowDrew »

Normally, when you do lowering springs, you replace shocks too. Why is it that I don't see "performance" shocks when I search for Matrix/Vibe? The two brands I looked are KYB and Tokico. Is it not necessary to do shocks when lowering a Vibe?My Vibe got 45K miles, so I might as well replace the shocks. Do I just go with "stock" replacement shocks?

It is not required to change the shocks, and from what I understand there are no performance shocks for our cars anyways. KYB has shocks, but they are the same as the stock shocks from what I heard on MO. If yours go bad you just have to replace with with new stock shocks.

Like Jason stated it isn't necessary to replace the shocks/struts when lowering. However, we will have performace shocks & struts later this summer from Tokico. They are in development right now. Hopefully for us AWDer's as well. We'll see.

Then without "performance" shocks, do the Vibe ride kind of "jiggy" over bumps?

I was thinking of the same thing, replacing shocks and keeping my Tein S-Tech springs, but no go (yet). I'm probably going to end up getting the Tein Coilovers this Spring which include the shock/spring assembly.
