There are some sources out there that suggest the Vibe as a model may not be around long enough to see a major redesign......
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

considering the contract is over in '08 and the apparant lack of knowledge in the vast majority of GM dealerships when it comes to doing any sort of maintenance on our *ahem* toyota drivetrains...i would not be surprised if GM did a complete new model which uses the Cobalt platform but still has the utilitarian concept of the vibe.they have to compete against so many other 'vibe-ish' models that are springing up from chrysler/ford/mazda/etc. and it would be wise on their account to go to a platform that their 'grease monkeys' know how to fix.
I have signatures turned off so I'm not even sure what mine says in this space!

the spot the vibe fills in the popntiac lineup neesd to be filled. maybe the vibe will seperate from the matrix, but a "vibe" will still be in their lineup. to loose a car that sells 60k units a year is a bad desicion.maybe gm will use the HHR as the platform. use different sheet metal.the vibe as a model is moderately strong seller. the torrent couldn't fill the gap the vibe fills. a vibe buyer isn't a suv buyer.

The new RAV4 looks just like a bigger Vibe. New RAV4 will sell big. So unless they rebadge a RAV4(which would lessen NUMMI's work) OR do a different power plant(2.0L). Which is not likely... Toyota is well known for major redesigning every 6-7 years. And minor style changes every 3-4. But will GM like to do that? They changed the grill in 2005. Which was an easy change. So I don't think we'll see something very different till 2008 model.

I don't think ~60,000 units a year is moderately selling... To me, seeing how much this "joint venture" probably costs when it comes down to R&D, dealing with another manufacturer when it comes to assembly, necessary changes/defects/whatever, different parts to be renumbered and repackaged before they can be stocked at the warehouses, the cost of training across the entire dealer network just so they can know how to work on a few extra cars is far from worth what they're seeing in return for sales volume. IMHO, that's more like "dump the car, it's probably costing more money to produce than it is worth." If this were all GM technology, it wouldn't be as bad to not sell as many, IMHO...For comparison, the HHR was out for 1/3 of the year for all intents and purposes - I saw one or two showing up on the dealer's lots in August. But it didn't really seem to show up in any good quantity until far later in the year. According to GM they sold 41,011 of those last year. With a full year behind it, only 64,271 Vibes found homes. If the HHR can get those numbers in a few months vs. what the Vibe was able to do in an entire year, uhh... The true test will be this year, as the newness of the HHR wears off if it is able to continue that sort of momentum. What's really funny though, is how 124,000 G6's were sold, yet the G6 is claimed to be a dud in the sales department. We never hear anything about the Vibe being slow in sales. Those aren't the greatest numbers either, seeing how things like the Camcord steal 400,000+ a year or whatever they sell.I welcome a true GM Vibe. That will be the ONLY way to get me behind the wheel of a new one. I do think going to a GM platform like that of the Cobalt/HHR would be more beneficial for the model's long term health.

Wonder if the "technical alliance" is the same alliance for producing cars together? If so, it's up in 5 days, not 2008.http://www.edmunds.com/insidel...09399

Imakevibes works at NUMMI and he said the Vibe is in production thru 2008, but I guess that could change.

What I do know is that here, in the (admittedly unimportant) Cincinnati Auto Show, there were no Vibes displayed in the Pontiac area. This cannot be a good sign.

Last month when I was in for an oil change there were few Vibes on the lot but now Dave Gill Pontiac has 18 reg 2006 Vibes and 1 GT listed on their website. Also notices a lot of Vibes parked there with license plates on them - presume they are employee cars.

I agree with panic good points although recently purchased a new vehicle for my girl frined traded in her Jeep liberty needed a little more room and way better fuel milage look at the HHR as well as a Vibe GT like mine and actually for the money size room options quality etc. Bought a new Mazada 5 Black like my vibe GT awesome car so glad we purchased it it seats 6 3rd row seating and still when parked in the garage next to mine is only a half bumper longer amazing vehicle windshield is really slopped more than mine and the beauty is it has 17" wheels 4-wheel disc independent suspension with an auto stick tranny plus a spoiler 6 disc in dash and ground effects and still was only $19,000 and we love it,,,,,as for me more than my vibe GT ummmmm i wish the vibe had a little more room but i'd really miss the power and those 8,200 rpm passes on the highway lol but i think the vibe is an amazing vehicle look forward to keeping mine looked into trading it for an HHR but again there not any more room plus there more money and not hearing many good things about the ride etc of the HHR all in all i'm quite happy with my car and look forward to keeping it for a long while later!!!

With all the speculation going on who knows what will happen. I think the Vibe has its place in the market and it would be a shame to discontinue a successful car as this. I'm only wishing here, but we likely will see a bit of change in design and hopefully a little more horsepower (150hp) and torque (150 ft. lbs) That would be nice. I guess the price tag will also go up. We shall see.

Over the weekend wife and I went do a test fit on her in the driver seat (didn't want to do more than that since I have to wait another few months until the next GMAC pull ahead offer). We actually had the dealer owner as our sales person, which I didn't catch right off the bat. Nice guy, bit older, gaudy jewlery, nascar jacket but nice clothes, and he actually knew cars well.Anyway, we got to looking at a few levels of vibe and talking about it and he told me that they are pairing down models and PRODUCTION for 07 and he feels that it is leading to either a complete redesign or possibly cancellation. He said that GM desperately wants a selling cross over and while Vibe sales ahve been decent the deal with Toyota is not a happy one for GM and the model is considered dated with the unveiling of the Matrix redesign and the new Dodge Caliber (Which pretty much now sets the standard for pricing and features in a cross over). He seemed to think Vibe would be gone in 08 and that a pontiac branded HHR would replace it (YUCK).After having sat in one and seen external and internal fit and finish compared to the Caliber I can see why... no contest. While the overall shape and look of it is pleasing the paint quality is garbage with a capital G, especially the mono-painted panels which are as rough and dull as sandpaper. Fit and finish inside is okay but not nearly on par with Caliber, and options wise the Vibe and Matrix both are way behind compared to Caliber right now. Reliability is still a win with that solid engine/tranny as is mileage and cost of ownership, but when you compare prices and features the Vibe/Matrix just became a big time ugly duckling on paper.I so love the exterior styling of the Vibe, but the crap tilt mechanisim and seat jack (calling it anything other than a rough mechanical jack is silly) means my shorter wife can't see squat out and sits dangerously close to the wheel, the audio system is rather thin sounding, lots of rattles, paint and finish issues, narrow tires, low power, etc.The new 07 caliber R/T fully loaded is the same price as a loaded GT Vibe... but it comes with the drink chiller, lighted everything inside (cup holders, handles, switches), a far better stereo system sound wise, a quiet interior, wider stance and tires, bluetooth integration, more power, a CVT2 tranny with a tap shift performance mode, and the front/lowerfront and side airbags are standard across all models, reclining rear seats, heated and power front seats - and that's on top of similar things like fogs, fold flat rear seats and passenger front, etc... About the only thing, and this is purely subjective, that the Vibe has over the Caliber is the looks catagory (but the caliber's front end is growing on me). In 08 there will be a real performance version as well as Nav system offerings and they plan on offering warrantied aftermarket performance parts like a turbo as well.

GM NEWSGM, TOYOTA AGREE TO EXTEND ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY COLLABORATION .... GM and Toyota Motor Corp. have agreed to extend their advanced technology collaboration agreement two more years with a focus on safety and congestion-related technologies, and industry codes and standards. The agreement covers information exchange and collaborative research in areas such as well-to-wheels energy usage and emissions, intelligent transportation systems and connected vehicle (vehicle infrastructure integration and vehicle-to-vehicle communications). The agreement also allows for research projects in other areas the companies identify as mutually beneficial. The GM-Toyota collaboration, which began in 1999 and would have expired at the end of this month, will be extended to March 31, 2008.
