I think I fried my TV...

Post by redlava »

I was trying to hook up a friends PS2 last night and was having trouble trying to get it to work. The wiring system I have to get all of my equipment to work is a little strange. I had it hooked into my VCR's front AV jacks, but that wasn't working for some reason. So I unhooked my DVD player from the back of my television and was just going to hook it up that way, and found out that his PS2 had a short it the wire. It worked after I juggled the cables a little. So I undid everything and was going to try and hook it in through the VCR again thinking that was the original problem. Hooked everthing back up and tried the VCR again, it still didn't work. But noticed that the picture on the TV was all messed up, I decided to screw it. Not wanting to play baseball anymore I decided that I was just going to watch TV. Unhooked everthing again, turned off the TV and tried to turn it back on and it wouldn't turn on anymore. Just tried it again and it still won't turn on. SON OF A B#@!&%Hopefully it is fixable at a fairly reasonable rate, I don't really want to buy a new TV because I was planning on buying a HD in the next 3 or 4 years. Waiting for them to get a little bit cheaper ya know. And I like my TV, we have a history together. (7years)

Bummer...that's the first time I've heard of baseball killing a TV. Try pitching outdoors.

a ps2 typically can not be conected to a vcr due to copyright protections on discs activated by the vcr....for games this usually isnt a problem but definatly for dvds the picture is what gets scrammeld. different vcr's will scramble in different ways.hope your tv can be fixed!

That's DVD copy protection, doesn't matter to games. And they won't look scrambled, just the brightness/contrast of the image will go dark and bright again every few seconds.I've managed to 'kill' a couple TVs for random things. What kind is it, btw? See if you can find a manual for it, and see if there isn't some sort of reset method for it.

Never had a problem with it before. I have hooked it up through the VCR several other times and it worked perfectly. That was before I bought a DVD player though, so the way I have it hooked up now is different. I did have the VCR hooked up to my TV using the AV jacks, with the addition of the DVD player I had to go back to the regular coaxial hookup and I hooked my DVD player in through my TV cause that was the only way I could get it to work. So now that I think of it, I wouldn't be able to use the VCR because it is hooked up in a way as to not allow the front AV jacks to be used with the TV.I took it in to the repair shop and they said I should have an answer today or tomorrow. If it can't be fixed for less than $100 then I will probably just buy my Stepdad's old TV from him.

I used to have my DVD and PS2 plugged into imput 1 and imput 2 on my VCR and then my VCR was wired to my surround sound system and to the TV. I never had any issues with it at all. And my TV never quit working.

In my experience, it is about an $80 diagnotic fee for them to tell you what is wrong. Sometimes they will apply that to the repair. So if the repair is $180 and the nonrefudnable fee it only will cost you $100 more to get it fixed than not get oit fixed but you are stillotu $180.A new 27 inch flat screen Panasonic stereo tube tv can be had for $310 at CC this week. A 20 inch off brand (nonflat) is about $110.

It is a 27" Magnavox. They just called and said it can be repaired for $113.I had them go ahead and fix it. From what I gathered there was a loose connection somewhere in the AV jack inside the television which caused a short and it burned up a resistor and something involving the power supply. They have the parts to fix it and they said they could probably have it done today or tomorrow. Yippie!!!

well, atleast the copy right issue some of the giuys mentioned wasn't what caused the problem. i also have a 27" magnavox. my wife brough it to the relationship. i think it's about 6 years old.i've got a 4 yr old vcr, which i rarely use. it has never given me any crap with my xbox, or old ps2. a little off topic, but i hate copy right laws.i BOUGHT the media, not leased it. i can do and WILL do whatever i want to with it.back to topic. national wholesale liquidators has a 32" flat panel HD lcd for 799$. i want it so bad.

In time for the Superbowl and now the Olympics I just got a SONY XBR 40" LCD for the "bargain price" of $2,962. My cable bill was going to cost me an extra $38 a month for the digital upgrade and HD package. However, I discovered that the local channels come in fine on HD with just a good set of rabbit ears. Most of what I watch is NBC/CBS/ABC anyway. Glad I got a set with a built-in HD tuner. $3,000 seems like a lot, but in 1965 I bought a Zenith 25" color set that was $615. In 2006 dollars this would probably be more than $3,000.
