2005 Vibe, when I want to idle with the exterior lights off, I put on the brake with the ignition off, start the car, but the lights always come on. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong, or is it the car. According to my owners manual, I'm doing this correctly.I have a 2003 Vibe also, and this has never been a problem, I can always idle with the lights off and the brake onAny suggestions, or is this a warranty issue (I only have 10k miles on the '05)Thanks!

The auto headlamp module was redesigned sometime during the 2004 model year which probably explains why your 2003 works as you expect and the 2005 not.
my '05 owners manual states that it should work the same way as the '03's owner manual says. I realize the owners manual has been known to be wrong in the past (i.e. latches on door to cabin air filter)

Maybe we can get a few other owner's feedback here. On my '03, I obtained one of the 'new' revised headlamp modules back when they came out so I know for a fact mine acts the same way as your '05 does.I cannot remember what happened when I had the original module back in the day since I never needed to utilize that function.
is it dark out or parked in a garage ? if so, I bet it is the auto headlights. I have a 05 vibe and my DRL won't come on if I set the emer brake and start the engine.

ok yea i think its what vibebob said. i tried this and i was kinda wondering.during the day i had my car warming up and i always have my p-brake on so when i was coming out of the house to take the car somewhere the DRL's were NOT on.When i started it at night they headlights were on. so yea if its dark the lights will be on no matter what. its ONLY during the day that the p-brake/no lights works.
Manual transmission or automatic on your 2005? I do recall reading some owner's report that their manual transmission-equipped Vibes wouldn't disengage the lights despite the parking brake being on prior to the ignition being on...

i have one of those last 2004 models. my headlights come on no matter what i do. the manual also tells me that you can set it to stay off on an automatics. doesn't mention a stick shift.
yep, during daylight, the lights do not come on when I start the car with the brake on. But if it is nighttime, or I'm in my garage, the lights come on. this is not how my '03 Vibe did it.Thanks for everybody's help on this!
