160amp HO Alternator that fits in the Vibe. 185.95 Shipped!!!

Post by MoonDogg »

I found this on eBay and have contacted them and have confirmed it will fit in the vibe. The part numbers match so we should have no problem using this. I will order one shortly (when I get the money inbetween jobs right now) but thought it was important enough to let everyone know about it. Let me know what yall think. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...S%3A1

Looks good. What is that, 40amps higher than stock? I need something like that when I get my Vibe up and running again for my system and air bags! Seems like a good price too compared to others I have seen.

I'm going to call them tomorrow. They're just up in the LA area, so I'm going to see if I can get one sent ASAP. They also have a 170A alt, so I'm going to ask them about that tomorrow too.

I am interested in seeing if this alt fixes the fluxing power problem.186 is not a bad price if it fixes this. Can someone post back with their experiances?Did the power problem go away?Did the hard start problem go away?Any performance improvements?

I don't know anything about the Vibe, but I will offer a word of warning when changing to a stronger alternator. You may need to replace the fuseable link if you go to a higher output alt.I also have a 2000 Nissan Frontier that has an anemic alternator and a popular mod for us offroad guys putting on lights and winches is to go to a heavier alternator. The Nissans require a higher amp fuseable link in order to do so.Like I said, I don't know the specs of the Vibe, and it would be good to figure out what you need before you possibly fry things.

I have to release the belt tensioner, remove the fan shroud, and R&R the alt and out it all back together. Not too hard, just haven't gotten around to it. Maybe today if I feel motivated? Need some motivation here to help me out!

Got it installed. Not sure how much of a difference it makes, but it seems like the car starts faster and the compressors seem to run shorter now. However, I did notice last night that the headlights got brighter when I hit the gas, so not sure what that's about.

I have to pry out the fan shroud first b/c the supercharger blocks the space needed to get it out. Almost had to break it just to get it out. Then I had to loosen the belt, remove the S/C bracket, and take the wiring off and remove the alt. Getting the new alt in was also a PITA. The way the brackets and stuff are due to the S/C 1 bolt had to get tightened last but needed to be tightened first to line everything up. Took a while but we eventually got it. Then the belt was being a (removed) and I couldn't figure it out but my bro-in-laws managed to figure it out. Then had to cram the shroud back in and done! Took most of the day between that, the rotors, and brake pads. The passenger side rotor pulled right off, but the driver's side took some beating with a rubber mallet to come off. It had a rust ring right where it mates to the hub holding it together. All in all it took most of the day, prob from 12-6 or so.
