A few days after the warranty was up my wife mentions to me that the switch for the passenger side rear view mirror reading light has been acting up - difficult to get it to catch to turn the light off. GRRR!I tried it - had to press it about 50 times before it "caught" and turned off the light. Guess I'll have to live with this (levae it off) as it sounds like it could be an expensive repair/replacement. Other option if it won't turn off is just to remove that bulb.

Mine didn't come with a mirror that had the lights in it, so I bought one off ebay for about $10 and wired it in to the sunroof control wiring for power. So, I wouldn't say that it would be very expensive to replace the whole mirror.
see, there's nothing too expensive when we have ebay.i would suggest upgrading since you are in the market for a rear view mirror.got my auto dim mirror for 25$ on ebay.
