newbie question - OEM navigation and ipod

Post by avyrauen »

Hey guys . i was wondering i just acquired a navigation unit from a toyota matrix and i am pretty sure that is the exact same as the one found in the pontiac vibe correct ?Anyway if it is I was wondering if there was any way to hook up my i-pod to it weather it be by a direct interface or by a wired FM modulator . I think you can hook up a 6 disc cd-changer to this unit if I am not mistaken , but i would really like to have my i-pod hooked up to the unit instead . I would really not like to get the wireless fm transmitters since they are full of static . Here is a link to the e-bay auction for it :http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...%3AIT**Please note this is my first time posting on here and if this topic has been covered already , please direct me to thread . thanks .

yup, that is the oem unit. it fits the vibe just fine.there is a adaptor. can't think of the exact name but it has aux in it. search baby!!!if the unit came from a 04+ then this adaptor will work. it connects to the second smaller side pins. this is where the oem 6 disc changer connects. a peice of knowledge. the vibe oem unit isn't a touch screen. just letting you know as it didn't say on the auction. this was important to me. it kept me from getting it. hope you enjoy it.do a search either way.

If it's truly the nav unit from a Vibe (was never offered for the Matrix, I believe) then you should be able to use an AUX2CAR, AUX-BOX, or other AUX adapter that is compatible with the Vibe 1CD units. These emulate a remote changer, and just pump in audio from whatever source you choose (like iPod).

GM12-AUX this is the connector that SHOULD WORD IF YOUR UNIT IS 04 +. Here are some sites that sell items you might be interested in.http://www.peripheralelectroni...r.asphttp://www.installer-data.com/...xgm12the 1cd unit and nav both have the cd changer input. again. only th 04+ have this option.

Any of the 3 adapters mentioned should work with any year Nav unit.(The apps guides say 2004+ because the 2003 basic 1CD unit didn't support an external CD changer or XM radio. However, all years of the Nav came with and support an external CD changer and hence an AUX input.)

When I had the NAV, I had to get the PIE Aux-X3 which plugged in between the headunit and the CDChanger. Without the Changer, though, it wouldn't work.I don't know about any of the other units, unfortunately.

fm modulation is another, lower audio quality option that WILL work with any head unit.Inline devices tend to be better than wireless FM broadcasting types - more expensive, more work to install - but worth it for the audio quality. If you can - get an aux adapter from a company that offers a return... you may want to call them to explain your situation. I have aux input for my single CD - and love it.I hate to say search the forums - as you already have - but remember the DVD Nav head unit will communicate with the aux boxes just like a changer. However, before ordering - explain that you've had reports (like Jahntassa's) that it won't work without a changer. They should be able to work with you - and in the end, well worth it for the quality difference.

However, before ordering - explain that you've had reports (like Jahntassa's) that it won't work without a changer. They should be able to work with you - and in the end, well worth it for the quality difference. There's a distinction here:The 3 AUX adapters - AUX2CAR, AUX-BOX, and GM12-AUX will work by pretending to be CD-changers (or XM tuners) to the radio/NAV unit, allowing them to be selected from the NAV to pump in external audio.-- However, they cannot be used if you already have a CD-changer/XM tuner as they will conflict. The one that Jahntassa mentioned, Aux-X3, and others lije the AAI-GM12 are designed as AUX inputs for systems that already have a remote unit like a CD-Changer/XM tuner. They go in between the head unit and the remote unit, and basically just switch the audio lines between the remote device and the AUX input via an external switch you have to mount somewhere. The ClassII bus is always connected to the remote unit, and the remote must be there and playing something for the head unit to recognize it and accept audio - either passed thorugh from the remote, or switched in via the AUX adapter. -- However, this adapter will not work without the remote device. These are 2 very different types of products intended to allow AUX input under different system conditions. Since you indicated you do not have a CD-Changer, you want one of the first three adapters. If you did, you'd need one of the second two.Hope this helps...

well , guy i got the unit and there is some good news and some bad news . the good news is the radio and deck works . the bad news is the dvd rom drive doesn't work . so close yet so far . apparently the rom drive is not dropping the cd or dvd down onto the spinner . you can see that when the disc is inserted the cd/dvd doesn't drop down so the deck keeps saying processing error . do any of you guys know any places that repair the dvd drives for these decks ? Any help would be appricated . thanks .
