Steering wheel airbag

The steering wheel airbag in my car is no longer centered. There used to be an equal gap between the airbag and the wheel on both sides, but recently I have noticed that there is no longer any gap on the left side, all the gap is now on the right side. Of course, having noticed this trivial aesthetic flaw, it bugs me.Anyone know if there is any play in the mounting of the airbag, where I could loosen it up and recenter it?

Woah... Same deal with mine. One side has a larger gap than the other.

its held on by the two hex screws on the left and right side behind the wheel posts, and then a clip on the bottom to keep the bottom part in.those things are supposed to be tightened to a torque rating if i remember correctly, so i don't fully get how they could come lose, but they are held 'in place' (meaning aimed at the airbag) by the plastic back of the wheel.its possible that the hole that they go through has adjusted. i am assuming you cant just move it back the other way? then i would imagine loosening the two (after disabling the SRS for safety) and retightening should do it.

Hey, I "fixed" mine, temporarily at least. On mine, the gap was there on the right but on the left side, it was pushed all the way over. I simply grabbed hold of the left and right side of the wheel and pushed one side of the air bag module, pulled the other a teensy bit. The gap is now even. I noticed I can push it back to where it came from as well so I'm certain this condition will return.I'm not sure if I am moving the whole assembly or just the cover, I'm assuming I am moving the whole assembly which makes me a "tad" uneasy! The thought of explosives pointing straight at me at all times whic may not be securely fastened concerns me. Or maybe it's just the way it is hinged, it moves a lot when you go to honk the horn, perhaps it just gets out of whack over time and putting it back in center won't hurt you or it.I dunno if you should try what I did, but it does clear up that unsightly gap though!

your moving just the cover.its fine.i took my cover off to put fabric on it.with the fabric there.there isnt much play to shift anymore.but its still fully funtional
